association he said is pushing for recognition There is move for university affiliation and inclusion in the Ontario Health Disciplines Act The chiropractic section of the act he said will not be discussed until the fall delaying decision on univer sity affiliation Dr Sutherland said 80 to 90 per cent of the 540 students en tering the Canadian Chiroprac tic College in Toronto have completed three to four years of postsecondary education Many have science degrees The students spend another four years at the college lear ning about chiropractic medicine yet there are still people who think chiropractors study for six months he said University affiliation with recognized medical faculty he said could help promote co operation sooner RECEIVE GRANTS Dr Sutherland said the students at the college are star ting to receive grants and loans even though the govern ment is not paying one red cent to the college to pay for the courses Dr Gary Dyck president of the Simcoe County association said scare stories are still cir culating Most of the stories he said are either malicious rumors or are started by people who have lack of knowledge about chiropractics Dr Dyck said more stories will be circulated in the next few months in an attempt to keep the chiropractors out of the governments proposed act lot of the stories are based at practices that were common in the 1920s he said Were young profession and were going through our growing pains but people should judge Ls on what we are doing now and not what happened in the past Some medical specialists in the Barrie area he said are co operating with chiropractors and there is basic referral system between the two professions But he added many of the Barrie chiropractors have to refer patients to Toronto doc tors because Barrie doctors will not cooperate HEALTH TEAM The government is pushing towards health team concept including the chiropractors be said adding it would be in the best interest of patients According to recent surveys he said only about seven to 10 per cent of the population con sults chiropractors for help Dr Dyck said most people in Barrie using chiropractor are referred by other residents who have been helped There is some excellent co operation by some of the specialists in town but its really matter of number he said explaining that Toronto may have 50 specialists in one field and Barrie only one or two If the Barrie specialists refuse to cooperate we have to refer the patient to Toronto New rules will cost $1000 builders association told New residential construc tion requirements under the replaces 749 municipal building standards bylaws in Ontario and creates considerable rumber of new requirements Mr Spanis said he could not put dollar figure on the Bill Bell chairman of this years Cancer Society fun draising campaign was at Warnica public school in codes effect on housing pices but Mr Byers said in an interview $1000 $800 for townhouse would be con servative estimate Mr Spanis said the new code will not cause any pro blems with Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation financing as had been reported in The Examiner An earlier story said CMHC might be unwilling to cover the cost of requirements ex ceeding its own standards but Mr Spanis said he has been assured by CMHC of ficials that such items will be covered if included in specifications submitted with plans Local teeter totter athon to raise the Wonders worked by band leader Mr MURIEL LEEPER The general development of the Barrie North bands can mly be termed Amazing It was difficult to remember that there is such short history behind these students as one sat in the auditorium Thursday night and listened to arch good sound with an un derlying vitality that is tmusual Sharon Sibthorpe has worked wonders with her students She has fine rapport with them every much in evidence But as well it is also evident that these students really work hard There is no other way that the Junior Band could play respectany good program after only few months of in struction Miss Sibthorpe even had the courage to expose the ficmbone section Shawn Pollett Al Byrnell Marc Gautier and Steve Richardson in bit of fun that took the audience by surprise and then went further and soloed the Clarinet Choir in delightful piece by Aaron Copland The Concert Band is already acquiring polish that is sur rrisingly good The Overture by Smith was quite hit with the audience and so was the Cole Porter Symphonic Portrait The Concert and Repertory Bands played an effective trio of pieces ending with popular Lady of Spain Euphonium soloist Jamie Warrington showed her skill in Romance with Mrs Riddell accompanist It all added up to fine con cert Yet it seems to me that this band has fallen into the thinking of most school bands today Trying for symphonic sound they have forgotten that the strongest highlight of any band can be firstclass mar ch And longed to hear stirring military march There are many written of course and it seems pity that some of these are not included in the repertoire Barrie North Bands include nearly 100 students now In the near future undoubtedly they will be bringing many laurels to the City of Barrie They have rogressed in striking man ner to this point With their aprit de corps it will be more than interesting to watch them develop further Ronald Mackenzie of Barrie has been
