The Sas katchewan government has ap pointed committee to oversee the provinces valuable wetland areas The wetlands in the region known as the Prairie pothole are probably the worlds largest breeding ground for water fowl The three Prairie provinces account for six per cent of the total continental breeding area but have 47 per cent of the treeding population says Ron Quinn resources adminis trator with the provincial gov anment Saskatchewan alone raceives onethird of the total con tinental breeding population The breeding population in the spring of 1973 was estimated at 425 million Although government policy on wetlands use is still long way off Mr Quinn sees the area as valuable for its potential in recreation water storage water purification and research The government wetland committee composed of deputy ministers of several depart ments settles conflicts arising from drainage and other wet lands programs The committee has delineated five priority zones according to their
