Maritimes arrived in Barrie Tuesday when the Dartmouth Nova Scotia high school band wsrted North Collegiate The 52 musicians and their four chaperones are return ing visit the North band paid them during the mid winter break The band is made up of students from Dartmouth senior high school and Prince Andrew senior high school along with four members from twojunior high schools The students travelled to Ontario by train and began their tour of Barrie Tuesday morning with concert at North After they were met by the mayor and signed the guest registry at city hall In the afternoon they took tour of the CKVR television studio At 330 the students returned to North for joint rehearsal then spent the evening with their billets This morning the band travelled to Orillia where it will spend two days visiting the Stephen Leacock Home and taking part in concert with Park Street and Twin Lakes collegiates During the remainder of their stay the students will visit Fort Ste Marie Blue Mountain Pottery and in Toronto Black Creek Pioneer Village the Science Centre CN Tower and Canadian Na tional Exhibition They will fly back to Nova Scotia Saturday night Back to old phone numbers for the white pages in their telephone books rather than the single wide area phone number which has been in use since April when the Georgian Bay Ambulance Dispatch centre in Barrie took over dispatching for am bulance service in the three centres After Monday the centres numbers will be 7268103 for the Barrie Stroud Lefroy BordenAngus and Moonstone exchanges 3257461 for Orillia Oro and Sebright 5265466 for Midland Bluewater Lafon taine Penetanguishene and Port McNicoll Victoria Har bour Bell Canda officials said in press release the decision to $470211 spent here job training During the past year the Canada Manpower Centre CMC had poured $470211 into local firms in hopes of creating new and improved jobs The money was given through CMCs industrial training program as finan cial incentive to employers to create new or better jobs for their employees The activity report for the ï¬scal year ending March 1976 indicated there were 125 training agreements signed with Barrie area firms These produced 270 new jobs and upgraded the skills and qualifications of 98 others already employed CMC says the objective of the program is to stimulate the Canadian economy reduce unemployment and improve productivity through the expansion and improve ment of employercentred training The programs are con ducted through Georgian Col lege which designs and monitors the training in co operation with employers David Lewis who is in charge of the program here described it as means for small businesses to expand and progress with some of the costs supported by the government Eligibility guidelines are froad Mr Lewis said and persons interested should contact him at the manpower centre in Barrie LOCAL GENERAL CAMP REGISTRATION Registration for the Barrie YMYWCA day camp is now open
