mon pointe out the vast inequalities that exist bet ween our own economy and that of the impoverished developing countries of the world He stressed the fact that in many ways the con dition of the poorer countries is the direct result of our own affluence The congregation joined in an examination of the Shakert Pledge thclaration of concern drawn up by group of people who were deeply moved by the global poverty and ecology crisis This declaration is commitment to nine prin ciples of living which include world citizenship ecological responsibility and the sharing of personal wealth with the worlds poor As one tangible way of ex pressing our concern the congregation was invited to contribute generously to the world development service and relief fund which is spon sored jointly by the Anglican Lutheran Presbyterian Roman Catholic and United churches of Canada It works to meet emergen cy needs such as the Guatemala earthquake disaster and to provide long term development aid to
