victory in their twoyear history by winning the Ontario Junior Womens Open Cham pionships Saturday at the new Etobicoke Olympia This championship featured the top juniors from throughout Ontario Three of the teams Ottawa Merivale Scarborough Saints and Lon don Junos will all be com peting in the Canadian Junior Championships in Victoria BC next month The seven competing teams played roundrobin tournament consisting of two game matches against each club The championship was decided on the results of the roundrobin The PeterReino sponsored team compiled 102 record which was very impressive considering the strong com petition The Hustlers started out in strong fashion by easily beating Hamilton Sparta 151 152 In the next match the Hustlers beat the Ukranian youth team from Toronto on point spread as they split their match 157 815 The next two matches were easy victories for the Hustlers as they defeated strong Scarboro Saints team 154 158 and the North York Volleyball Club 151 157 The next two matches decided the outcome of the championship and the Peter Reino team overcame large deficits to win three of the four games and the cham pionship In their match with MICKEY FUSEDALE has been steady performer for the PeterReino Volleyball Hustlers in both league and tournament competition Fusedale en joys lighter moment during workout but is determined competitor She was one of Hustlers needed only one win over the London Junos 1975 Ontario open champions and 1976 Ontario closed cham pions to win the cham pionship The Junos came out strong and ran up an early 10 advantage But the Hustlers were not to be denied and they battled back and defeated this highlyrated London team 1512 to clinch the championship The last game of the match was anticlimatic and the Junos eked out 1614 vic tory The entire Hustler team played tremendous volleyball throughout the tournament noted coach Ed Redden The starting six composed of spikers Ellanna McKen dry Marg Niezbrzycki May Koot and Helen Kalo and universals Mickey Fusedale and Gerri Carre put on their strongest defenswe and of fensive display of the season The blocking of McKendry Niezbrzycki Carre and Fusedale was outstanding and was prime factor in the teams victory Karma Shaw came off the bench and played major role in the Hustlers victory over Ot tawa She scored seven straight points with her ser ving and also played strong on defence Brenda Vasey played well in victories over Hamilton and North York League returns members South Simcoe Baseball League held its 28th annual meeting at Ivy earlier this week returning Davis Arnold of Ivy as president for ninth term Also reelected were last years executive members Doug Howard of Orillia as vicepresident for third time Reg Westbrooke of Creemore as secretary treasurer for 17th time in 19 years Tom Arnold lvy Pat Hennessy Orillia Ray Lisk Beeton and Nick Owen of Barrie Ten teams were represen ted and indications were that last years 11 would
