ministry if the Conservative government decides to continue rent control system when the current program ends July 31 1977 didnt want to be minister in charge of mess he told meeting at the University of Western Ontario He said he sees no conflict of interest in being responsible for program he dislikes and ad ded he does not run programs unless he intends to make them work He said the government brought in the program reluc tantly but it would be dis astrous to end it now Mr Handleman was speaking after debate about government intervention in the rental market Michael Cassidy NDP hous ing critic argued for continued government intervention but said there is no need to extend intervention in the rental mar ket for the next year or so if the present rentcontrol system is administered efficiently Mr Cassidy member for 0t tawa Centre said he would like more small developers and builders to return to the housing market He wants large number of small businessmen to replace building monopolies existing in most Canadian cities he said Mr Cassidy said the NDP be lieved it was possible to com bine public ownership with pri vate enterprise Trophies back WOODSTOCK Ont CP Three
