of thanks were read from Joyce Sheppard and Flo Watts thanking members of the club and other friends who remembered them while in hospital Also received was letter from Tom Keane and wife Ethel thanking for the cards sent to Ethel who had fall while on her vacation down south She had cast on her shoulder Birthdays for March Jean Crosby Joyce Sheppard Ena Griffith Ina McKnight and George Uncles new member was welcomed Ena Williams also joined her husband Gordon Our old reliable Bill Ruffett gave us poem If God Sould GoOn Strike For the member most Irish prize was given that being Roy Davis President Eileen Johnston presented him with green plant with pretty flowers on it He had on little Irish green hat and tie and cane with green ribbon and did little Irish jig accompanied at the piano by Ruth Sprague Other prizes went to the lady wearing most green Ena Williams also get ting one for being the newest member Prize for oldest member went to Bill Ruffett Man wearing green Orville Mitchell Lady with birthday nearest to the 17 was Ina McKnight the 16 the man George Uncles 21 The table was decorated with Shamrock napkinholders and cake for the occasion made by Rose Newlove Thanks to all who contributed to make the afternoon an enjoyable one MARGARET CHAPELL The community was sad dened to hear of the death of Margaret Chapell resident of Bell Ewart for about 35 years She was born in Newcastle on Tyne England During World War One she met and married Arthur Chapell of Barrie She was the first war bride to come to Barrie after the war was over The couple lived in Toronto for some time but moved to Bell Ewart where they resided for about 35 years When her husband passed away about four years ago Mrs Chapell went to live in Toronto until her death March 12 NEW RESTAURANT Ina McKnight was host to her and yours truly at the newly opened Casa Loma dining establishment It is owned by Ralph Watts who has spent nearly three years having it remodelled He also wished Marge Peleck happy birthday Two euchre matches were held in the Bell Ewart com munity hall one Tuesday Mar ch16with12tablesatplay Prizes for the mens high score went to Marge Peleck playing mans card second going to Jack Siebert and Emerson Curtis For the ladies Ethel Laceby Bea Bertrand Evelyn Britton Marge also won most lone han ds The draw was won by Margaret Smith the good girl bought her parents an an niversary gift On Thursday the Ladies Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion had seven tables Mens prizes went to Rickie Curtis Jack Siebert and persistant Hubert Preston Most lone hands Paul Trombley Ladies prizes Marge Peleck Bea Bertrand and playing ladies card Ralph Thompson Rickie Curtis had the lucky ticket so it was his lucky night ANNIVERSARY Rose and Alf Newlove celebrated their 35 wedding an niversary with friends Betty and Doug Skinner by attending the Max Bygroves show at Massey Hall on Sunday March 14 They really enjoyed the humorous play and later had dinner at Rose and Alfs home Bill and Susan Ruffett had as visitors last week their son Gor don and wife Betsie from St Catharines and granddaughter Heather Nylon with her girls Liza and Bridgette from 0t tawa Susan and Bill also want to thank the young men who came to assist them when they had chimney fire last week CHURCHILL CURLING Duncan and Flo Coutts and Jackie and Cindy Bell Ewart couple and their two children were part of the two day mixed bonspiel held at Churchill curling club at the weekend First prize went to the Gor don Kneeshaw rink With Gord was Lillian Kneeshaw and Ivor and Addie Rogers Second prize went to Frank Keills rink with Every day in newspapers on radio and television outdoor advertising and through the mails youre being asked to do something with your hard earned money Since all our needs and
