stabbed and strangled Theresa Lynn Balkwill Sept 15 StaffSergeant Ron Iickard testified in Ontario Supreme Court Tuesday SSgt Pickard testified that Hissa had been arrested and charged with attempted murder Sept 15 in the late afternoon about 13 hours after the stabbing of Mrs Balkwill At the time of his arrest said the officer Hissa had said he had not been near Mrs Halkwills apartment on Well ington Street but he admitted knowing her He was asked if he wanted to make statement and he said simply lm inno cent The next day Sgt lickard nceived word that Hissa who was in Barrie Jail wanted to talk to him He again asked Hissa if he wanted to make statement and he said he did This time Hissa said he did it When asked to elaborate by SSgt lickard he said he choked her and stabbed her then left He said he didnt know why but said he had been smoking lot of grass and do ing lot of chemicals said Sgt Pickard Mrs Ralkwill had testified Monday that she and Hissa were friends and had been scxpartners She said that Hissa grabbed her by the throat Sept 15 dragged her into the lxdroom and smothered her with pillow When she came to several hours later she had two stab wounds near her heart and minor cuts in her neck SALIVA TESTS Dr Tieter Van Gcmmingen of the entrc for Forensic Sciences in Toronto the laboratory which does testing of articles seized in connection with police investigations presented his findings as to some cigarette butts which had been taken from the Balkwill apartment He said butts can be analyzed for saliva content and that saliva can determine the blood type of the smoker There were five butts taken from the apartment Three were smoked by person with group blood and two with group Dr Van Gemmingen testified that these groups each account for about 40 per cent of the population He had analyz ed saliva sample from Hissa and found him to have Group blood He had also found smear of human blood on Hissas pants but was unable to obtain grouping from it because it was toosmall Two ambulance attendants were first to reach the apart ment after Mrs Halkwill had called for help They had to press buzzer at the main en trance to get into the apart ment building Neither recalled exactly the front door opening but both said Mrs Halkwills door was open when they reached it They checked the apartment to ensure she was the only one in it but tried unable to form the intent to kill Mr Palmer called Diane and Greg Agowissa first friends of Hissa Mrs Agowissa 21 testified that Hissa had been to her place several times on the weekend on which Mrs Balkwill was stabbed The stabbing oceured on Monday morning and she said Hissa had been to her place for supper on Friday Saturday and Sunday Although she had met Hissa through her husband she knew him well because they worked together She said Hissa had been in good spirits all the time he was at the apartment although she though he was kind of high meaning he was on drugs She said she couldnt recall if he had taken any drugs in her apartment but said it would not be unusual if he did Crown attorney John Madden asked her how she remembered the events so well since they were six months ago RYSTALIZED Well we heard he was ar rested Tuesday and the memories of the weekend kind of crystallized in my mind And Ive thought lot about the weekend because we had been good friends and this trial it means his liberty and even his whole life she replied Her husband 22 could not recall the events of the weekend as well but said he was sure Hissa had been there on Friday Although it would be normal for him to come on Saturday he could not be sure Agowissa said he had seen Hissa use marijuana and chemicals such as LSD but did not know if he used any that weekend He never knew Hissa to be violent Beverly Michaud 20 said Hissa had played cards with her husband herself and another friend either Friday or Saturday night She said he did not appear to be himself and lost at euchre Usually she said he was quite good echure player but that evening he could not seem to concentrate and would sometimes burst out laughing at nothing She said she had not known him to be violent and had even had him babysit her two children occasionally SHARED ROOM Carl Bruster 19 of Coburg had worked in Barrie at the time of the stabbing and shared room at boarding house with Hissa He had met Mrs Balkwill and introduced her to Hissa He knew they had seen each other three or four times since they had met The last time he had seen her was Saturday Sept 13 when he and Hissa went to visit At that time he didnt think either Hissa or Mrs Balkwill had anything to drink although he had beer He left before Hissa and noticed Hissa was not home in the morning Bruster also said that Mrs Balkwill had called him to ask him to change his testimony He had lived with her for about month around Christmas and she asked him not to say that in the trial He told her he couldnt lie he said The trial continues today
