last fall herd of about 20 wild horses roamed the floor of the valley The herd lived free but unfortunately wild hor ses and society dont mix Local ranchers who actually claimed ownership of the hor ses by tracing bloodlines said the herd would sometimes trample crops and wild stallions were cutting away mares from herds of saddle horses One rancher said stallion came into his neigh bors yard and chased child In September the ranchers saw the herd standing together at the brim of the valley and within 15 minutes had chased the herd into corral They were sold to Calgary packing plant for meat Some people were upset about it and would have liked to see them run in the park but they were nuisance said rancher Alex Ross Jack Kunst 22yearold car penter from Stettler Alta who used to watch the herd won ders if the horses couldnt have been protected within the con fines of the park They were unique feature of the park beautiful sight he said Russell Fawcett district su perintendent in charge
