Brownell -Orono 4Bucks" at the Orono Orono D.B.I.A. and the tions presents Joyce Brownell won athe free draw for a Sidewalk Sale last Saturday Great Pineridge Kinsmen Club. Neyer too- old to Iearn! Following the recent Orono Sidewalk Sale I was talking to Jim Stutt at which tirne thesubject of the sale carne up for brief commnents as to its success. It came to mmnd that I could infact take success even from some of the things I had learned through the promo- tion itself. First a mini auction really doesn't work as we had thouglit it rnight. In façt it had little success at ail. We bad thougbt it rnight be fun for visitors to travel fr-ont store front to store front where items of interest would be auctioned off. The business people cer- tainly had co-operated in this part of the promotion and had selected items of value for the auction. The crowd, however, had different views and so the mini auction had to be drop- ped. 1 suppose if we bad really thought this through' we mîght have t4ken a differenit approach and now with some hind ýight it just might be the case in any such future pro- motion. The second lesson, and it was a good one, came witb the serving of 20 cent hot dogs of which 340 went within the hour. Now last year 1 was in charge of the cooking of the bot dogs and looked for the biggest pot 1 could find. FilI- edL it wîtb water and placed it on thepropane burner. Then I waited, waited, waited 'and kept on waiting for the water to get hot. It really neyer did. It possibly was fortunate thaï ;; did take so long for as tin.{ssed the erowd got hun ërIr and even slightly warmed wieners ýwere better than nothing. 1 was dreading the samne procedure this year when the whofe matter was taken out of my hands by Boyce Ander- son and Arnold Wallace. The Kinsmen hadl a bot dog heater designed for such a purpose and a small hot plate was aIl that was needed to heat the scant supply of water and as the steam rose it heated and moistened the buns in the top of the device. 1 could but help feel that the previous year I had been drowning the dogs when in fact it only takes a few cup fuils of water to undertake the job. Now just how l'in going to use this new found knowledge in the future l'mn not sure but surely ii could corne in bandy' some way along the fine. JUNIOR'S SPLIT EVEN The Orono Junior Tennis Club journeyed to Cobourg on Wednesday afternoon last and played their first exhibi- tion gamne of the season as an organized club with a junior club of the county town, giv- ing a good account of Sam at Queen's Park In an effort to ward off any possible closure of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station Sam Curétaz, M.P.P. for Durham East, has called for a municipal committe to be formed from Newcastle and Durham Region.
