Fobrget - Schmid Wedding Orono United Church, decorated with baskets of gladioli, carnations, daisy mums, and lighted candies, was the setting for the even- ing ceremony on Saturday, June 26th, 1982, when Rev. W. Wright united in mar- niage, Laurie Elizabeth, third claughter of Emil and Helep Schmid of Orono, and Robert Paul youngest son of Joseph and the late Eileen Forget of Newcastle, Mrs. Giadys Brown presided at the organ. Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose to wear her sister Elaine's wed- ding gown of white chiffon, fashioned with full sleeves, lace epaulets on the shoulders and lace bodice, with ruche- ing along the 'Y neck insert front and back. A s;imple hadpiece of silk flowers adorned her head. She. car- ried a bouquet of silk orchids with a combination of yelow roses, apple blossomrs and baby's breath. It was ac- cented by silk caladiumn leaves. The matron of honor, Julie Wilson, sister of the bride, wore a two-piece street-length outfit, a rose floral pattern on the background of purpie with silver threads. She wore an aqua hat to compiement ber outfit and carried a bou- quet of yellow and rose flowers. Four year old Susan Wilson, nicce of the bride, was the flower girl. Joseph Forget, brother of the groom, was the best man. The ushers were Bob Lewis, uncle of the bride, and Grecg Forget, brother of the groom. Following the marriage ceremnony, a wedding dance was held at the Newcastle Mos port -hosts Labatt Endurance .Cia-ssic The emergence of a new auto racing superstar, the battie to unseat Porsche from its position of dominance in international GT' racing and no less than four champion- ship point battles will be the focus of attention at the Labatt's 50 GT weekend at Mosport, north of Orono, August 13, 14, 15. A year ago, twenty-one year old John Paul Jr. was a driver to watch in the Inter- natioal Motor Sports Association's Camnel GT series. He led every race on the calendar, won the last two in convincîng style and placed second overall in the year end Camel GT standings behind England's Brian Redman who won six races in securing the title. Thsyear, at 22, the son of two-time World Endurance Champion John Paul Sr. is definitely the man to beat in the twenty race IMSÀ series. In eleven races to date, lie las already won six and scored an unprecedented five in a row counting the 'lut two of 181 plus the flrst three of '82. The six hour Labatts .50 GT will be a race within a race with no less than four separate chamipionships in- fluenced by the results. Cars in three categories: Camnel GT (Overall), GTO (Over 2.5 litre) and GTU (Under 2.5 litre) will contest the Labatt's 50 GT outcome. Out of town guests were present from Kirkland Lake, Midland, Penetanguishene, Port Perry, Oakwood, Toronto, Oakviile,Marmora, Flinton, Mountain Grove, Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Port__Hope and Bownianville. Prior to the wedding, several surprise showers were given ini the bride's honour by fellow employees at the Forestry, Toms and Sons Basebali Team, long-time friend Mrs. Yvonne Maitland, Mrs. Fac Forget and Mrs. Sheiiagh Bruton. The groom was the recipient of a gas barbecue from fellow workers at Maple Leaf Tool and Die in Oshiawa. the 12 hours of Sebning and the 24 hours of Daytona. Practice and qualifying for the Labatt's 50 GT starts Fni- day, August 13 with time trials for the pole position taking place front 2:15 - 4:40 p .m taking place from 2:15 - 4:00 p.m. There's more qualifying on Saturday, August 14 with the 6 hour endurance classic set to start at 11.00 a. m. Sun- day, August 15. A good spot is a low roof. 3. Cover fruit with a layer of cheese cloth or nylon netting to keep birds away. 4. Bring trays in at night and if it rains. Leave fruit umtil it is a leather'y consistency. Oven Dryinig 1. Use oven racks covered with'cheese cloth or nylong netting. 2. Place fruit on racks. 3. Turn oven on just until the indicator iight comes on- 70C (150-F). 4. Provide ventilation by pro- pping door open sighiy. Fruits that oxidize: apples, pears, peaches, apricots, etc. - dip in a solution of asorbic acid before drying. To give a candied fruit, cook at low heat for 10 minutes in a syrup of 250 mi. corn syrup, 350 MI. sugar and 750 mi. water.
