Orono Mother and Daughter Orono United Church was the scene of this year's annual Orono Mother and Daughter Banquet on Wednesday, June l4th. The evening began with a word of welcome from the M.C., Mrs. Gloria Gray followed by grace and a toast to the Queen. Kim Sherwin proposed a toast to the mothers which was respond- ed to by Mrs. Charlotte Anderson. Dinnerconsisted of a deliejous array of salads, cold cuts, casseroles and desserts brought by the mothers. We were all entertained with a comedy skit performed by Kim Mitchell, Julie and Shelley Gray. Accompanied by her mother Shelley aiso sang "Do-Re-Mi"l and "The Sound of Music". Mrs. Kath- leen Clarke, Brown Owl then presented badges to the Brownies and Mrs. Pam Aluin, Fluffy Owi waiked one girl to Guides and led seven, others through a charming Fiy-UOp ceremony into Gui- OILING PROGER COM'PLETED IN ORONO The Town of Newcastle pubic works departmnent has compfleted an oiling- programi for a number of streets in Orono that are of a gravel base. This program will over the long hiaul of the summer provide more comfortable drivingc conditions as well as cuttin down dust problims. Sev- eral Guides received badges and Laurie Benedict was presented with her Canada Cord Certificate the first in the company to receive this nlew document. One of the main events of the evening was the present- ation of Al-Round Cords to Kim Mitchell and Shelley Gray. The girls asked their fathers to place the-cords on their shoulders after which congratulations were offered by ail. The Parent Committee wished to thank Mrs. Donna H-utton, the ex-president for her hard work and enthus- iasm throughout the past year. Ail the girls but a few Guides who thoughtfully did the-dishes, retired to another room for a sing-song whiie the mnothers elected next year's commîittee executive. RECEIVE ALL-ROUND CORD ~Chamber to again sponsor annual beef barbeclue Fhe- Orono Chamber of, Commerce met a week ago Monday in the New Dutch Oven Restaurant for a dinner meeting. Following dinner a business session was held when it was decîded that the Chamber would again sponsor the annual beef barbecue. The rising price ot beet (lia not deter the enthusiasm for the event although it was predicted that -the cost of tickets may have ta be adjusted upwards to meet rîsing costs. The Chamber also setup a committee of the Chamber comprised of businessmen in the' downtown area of the Village. Mr, Herb Duvail was. appointed chairmaàn of the committee.
