MOM'S KITCHEN' Main St., Orono Consideration is again be- ing given to the holding of the Grand Prix Formula 1 auto race in Toronto which up to last year was held at Mosport Park, north of Leskard in the Town of Newcastle. An effort to hold the race in Toronto along the Lakeshore last year, was thwarted by opposition groups f rom the Lakeshore area wîth City council turning thumbs down on the proposai. The latest proposai from Toronto is being sought by a group backed by Carling's Breweries and would contain the race within the Canadian National Exhibition grounds. The former proposai would have piaced part of the track on the lakeshore road in front of the CNE. The matter i coming before the CNE just recently was set aside by the executive of the CNE until such a time as it has been defined just wbo has the right to sponsor the race. Last year the presentation from Labatts passed the Board of Directors as Labatts bas over the past years been granted the rîghts to sponsor the event in Canada. Lt is considered that Canad- ian Automobile Sports Clubs hold the rights for the race wbich can be transferred to a sponsor group such as Carling or Labatts.'- Lt bas also been pointed out that the Formula 1 Constructors Association has an agreement with Labat- proven tbat. Soit is witb some sadness that we are termin- ating tbis volunteer service. We are sure, bowever, that tbe Town will give Orono as good a swimming program as tbe Club did in the past. At this time I would iike to tbank ail those who volunteer- ed their time and services in the iast two years, ýespecially Sherri Richards (Secretary), Fera Sargent (Treasurer) and Ann Dreslinski (pubii- city) whose valiant efforts for attracting community par- ticipation unfortunately went unrewarded, Irene Konzelmann. the Reý,d Cross The Orono Swimming Club bas folded! At its last meeting on the 9th of this month only a dozen people showed up, ail of tbem directors and members of the executive. A new executive couid not be elect- ed. After mucb discussion it was decided with regret, that, due to the iack of interest shown by the community, it wouid be best to hand over the swimming program to the Town of Newcastle. For many years the club was organized by volunteers who did a great job and wbo cared about the kind of program that would be offer- ed to the chîldren of this community and surrounding area. Emphasis was also placed on hiring local stu- dents as assistants, instruct- ors and helpers. Tbere was bard work and sometimes some quite undeserved flak, but in looking back, the Club can be proud of baving offered one of the best programs in the region. It's excellent instructors and attendance figures bave every one needs
