The Ganaràska Conservat- ion Authority last Thursday evening set a budget for 1978 which totalled $433,300.00 which is $225.00 above the budget for 1977. Of, the total budget the Conservation Authority is asking a sum of $255,396 through regular and supple- mentary grants from the Province and a $177,904 from the participating municipal- ities within the watershed. For 1977 the municipal share of the budget was a total of $182,793.00 being reduced by a surplus from 1976 to an amount of $170,253.00. As of this date any surplus, or over- expenditure bas not been determined and will not until the end of the year. If a surplus exists it will apply to reduce the municipality share of the budget. An over expenditure in 1977 would likely be taken care of within the budget itself with no increase to the municipality above the $177,904.00 amount. The secretary-treasurer expects the Authority to be within its budget limits for 1977. The report also stated that a system of monitoring ener- *gy consumed on a monthly basis was now in effect. Lt was pointed out that now with this information and others a school to school comparison can be made as well as comparing the monthly and yearly energy saving pro- gress. An air leakage test was also carried out on windows of one classroom at Vincent Massey Public School and it was found that the total energy loss due to air leakage and conductïvity amounted to the equivalent of 400 gallons of fuel oil . per classroom per The Town of Newcastle wants a full-scale interchange at Holts Road with Highway 401 rather than what was termed a "Half Diamond". This issue came in for considerable discussion at council on Monday expecially since the matter is to again come before Regional Public Works Department on Tues- day. Mayor Rickard suggested that council take what action they desired on this matter out that it should be before the Regional Public Works on Tuesday. He said the Region- al department was of the feeling that a "Haîf Dia- mond" would be sufficient for the time being. Most council members ex- pressed the opinion that a full-scale interchange should be constructed at Holts road to service the new generating station and to take off extra traffic from the Waverley intersection. Council support the full- scale interchange for the intersection. Sharon and Brian Smart of ted by the Smarts is growing dancing.
