School Boa rd Brilef s The Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Educat- were informed last Thursday evening that work was to begin by June -lst 'on the oilfired generating station at Wesleyville in Ho pe Town- ship. By the end of the year it is expected somne 300 to 400 construction workers will be on the. job. The number employed is expected to peak to 1400ù by 1981. The permanent staff at the plantis expected to total 250. The Board was also told that work will begin on the Darlington Station in 1978 and peak in 1984 to 3,400 construc- tion workers.- Permanent staff in Darlington is expec- ted to number 700 persons. Hydro also, told the Board tiley would be continually monitoring the, effect' these developments had on the local school system. BOARD RECEIVES GRANT The Board, of Education received a grant of $17,016.20 through the Ontario govern- ment Experience '77 Summer Student Employment Pro- gram. The grant will fund five different programs includîng the development of the Can- ton Museum Community sch- ool at Canton along with a visual history project' of schiools, and a number of community summer school developments.
