Forma1 a pproval1 for t-ourtice Heîghts *Last Friday afternoon the Town of Newcastle council gave formai approval to four by-laws and two resolutions concerming the development of the-.controversial Courtice Heights proposai. The pro- posed development would allow two subdivisions con- taining a total of 1042 units. Construction on the two subdivisions - one the site of 759 units and the -other 283 units - can not begin until subdivision agreements are negotiated and signed bet- The Courtice and Aiea Citizens Association have en- dorsed a recommendation from the group to seek an inquiry by the province into the possible amalgamation of Courtice with Oshawa. This action was taken last Thuirs- day evening at a meeting held by C.A.C.A. Ontario Treasurer Darcy McKeough is to be asked to arrange the inquiry. The group also intends to press John Rhodes, minister of housing to stop the develop- ment of the proposed 1042 house units in the Courtice area. CACA had asked council of the Town of Newcastle to setup a task force to study the Courtice Heights ' develop- ment but as of Thursday no meetings had been called for such a force.
