It is reported that the services necessary for any community almost make it necessary that there at least be a population of 60,000. The Town of Bowmanville could in the samne period reach a population of 50,000 while the Village of Newcastle has been heldto a maximum population of 5,000. It is to be hoped that this report will provide the basis for the Town of Newcastle can now consolidate its planning for the future. 0f course -it will be necessary for the municipality to give the oppôrtunity for local input and , to publicize the intent and conditions of the report. Cameroit ask rcount Just before going to press this week Mr. George Cameron informed the Times that he had asked for' and was granted a recounit of the votes in the recent Board of Education election. The Icount after the election gave W. H., Carman the top position with Lawrence Greenwood having a two vote edge over George Cameron, 480 to 478. MR. Camferon stated that many of his supporters-have been asking that he go for a recount1 and since the vote was so close he feit duty-bound to ask for the recount of the ballots. McCreary of Brant- ford visited his sister Mildred Rainey and Ervan last week. UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES IN THE OSHAWA AREA The number. of clients registerd for employment at the Canada Mdanpower Cent- res in Oshawa and Ajax for the month of November totalled 4,415, which consisted of 1,808 maies and 2,6071 female clients. Registrationsi increased in the sales, con-1 struction trades and agricul- tural occupations. The Post Office is expected to hire between 350 and 400 temporary mail carriers and sorters for the Christmas period. Hîring began on1 November 26th, and temorary1 help will start woi* after December 2nd. A total of 517 persons were placed in employment during the month.
