Parts of the Town of Newcastle are excluded as is Scugog Township and parts of Brock and Uxbridge. Although ail areas are not covered by Regional Police ail taxpayers in the region do pay towards Regional police. At the present time- the Pegional Police Board is is idering extending their ý_-vice into Scugog but the auestion of money may be the deciding factor. It has been noted that.the budget would have to be increased to take over other areas. MUayor Malcolm of Scugog states that his municipality is quite satisfied with the OPP and if the Liurham Police are to take over that they take- over ail the municipality not just part of it. At the present time the Regional Police operate in Bowmanville while the OPP have the jurisdiction over the former Townships of Darling- ton, Clarke as well as Orono and Newcastle. Much interes-t in municiDal elections Municipal elections in the Diamond Triangle area are beginning to mount interest with candidates declaring their intention or interest in running for office. in the Trownships of Hope, Hamilton and in the towns of Port Hope and Cobourg. Although no definite reports can be made until after the closing of nominations on November l2th there- does appear a good interest for most- elective seats in the area. Many new faces could also appear on Cobourg council where a number have declared that they . will leave municipal politics and Hamilton Town- ship could have a host of candidates looking for ap- proval from the electorate for ail positions on council.
