ORONO WEEKLY TIMES, THURSDAY, APRIL l6th, 1970 ORONO WEEKLY TIMES PUbriabed everY Thur£Udy at the oMm f o ipi*bloaioa IMU SreOrono, (JMemi. Pkome 083-43mm CASE TO BE HEARD IN COBOURG Yesterday, Wednesday, the Ontario Supreme Court judge in Toronto dismissed the' hearing in which Mosport Parks Ltd. was asking for a less restrictive use of their lands in Clarke Township. It was ruled that the case was presented before the wrong court. Arrangements were made to hear, the case in Cobourg in the Ontario Supreme Court. This hearing is to be, held on Monday, April 27th. IT COSTS NO MORE NOW Every Spring everyone is faced with a spring dlean-up and this cornes annually without exception. We can always depend on having dirt laden streets after the snow dis- appears and this year is no exception. Our main street is again a dust bowl and when the wind blows, the air is filled with fine particles of dirt. The point we wish to make is that it costs no more to have this unsightly condition~ removed early rather than later. Neither does it take more planning or energy. We can see no reason why this dirt can- not bc removed early in the year 50 we can enjoy the benefits of our new streets. These new streets give littie benefit towards areas of beauty if left in their present condition. Everyone benefits from dlean streets and there appears no reason why this community can not enjoy this benefit for the longest lengli of time., It takes only a littie effort andl planning and, of course, a few dollars. WHAT'S OUR POSITION? The second discussion paper in connection with the Osh- awa based regýional area lias been presenited. This paper lias diawn theý east lioundary alonýg the Darlington-Clarke lime wirli, in efffect, leaves Clarke Township and Newcastle out o~fthrein in speaking with Reeve John Stone of Clarke Township, lie states that final decision over the boundaries is far froml being settled. H1e said that lie has statted in dis eussions with the regional planning group that if any part of Clarke is considered toelie included in the region that ail of tlie Township should be taken in. We feel tliat many of tlie mu nicipalities within tlie study area sliould be taking a more positive approacli to the study. Clarke Township Council lias voiced no opinion one way or anotlier. Newcastle does not, from our informýation, attend the meetings. Ajax, as admitted by their mayor and council inembers, lias been sitting on the fence, and little is lieard from Bowmanville and Darlington. It is likely truc that al information is not yet availab1e but interim opinions could surely be issued by individual councils. Oshawa lias follow- cd sueli a plan and its present decisions can certainly be altered as more information is presented. This policy gîves the people some indication as to the thinking of their councils and assurance that their municipality is taking an active part in tlie discussions. We could very well be cauglit flat-footed witli a final decision and have no avenue of dis- sent or agreement. Mayor "Desmond Newman of Whitby lias stated to the Oshawa press that tlie regi onal study group sliould hear wliat the people of Clarke feel in connection with eitlier being a part of or excluded fromn the Oshiawa region. Botli the mayors of Wilitby and Osliawa want public opinion. Wc feel tliat the, greater part of the population in Clarke does favour joining tlie Osliawa region but this can neyer be dctermined' until open d iscussion is formulated, The door is flot yct closed but let's not wait until it lias been closed befor e w risc up i revoit.
