The T.C.S. undertakine differs fom the usual centennial project ïn that it is enfirely financially independent. The usual centen- niai pr.oject is ore undertaken by a municipality with the financial assistance. of the Provincial and Federal Governm"ntqs The T.C.S. project, is being finaiced entireiY by that school and no goverumnent grants are being made. The National History Project is a two year study designed to make a fact finding survey of al aspects of the teaching of1 Can- adian history as it is now' taught, In our schools. Mr. Hjodgetts points out that the way lu wýhich a ýnation interprets, write and~ teaches its history is an important factor in mnoulding the dcstiny of the nation. T.C.S. hopes that a study of this kind undertaken on the lOth anniversary of the founding of that school will make a valuable contribution to the educational hf e of Canada in 1967. Mr. flodgetts has a team of jassociates -helping hlm b vîsit each province. An!aIy- sis of.this tremnendous 1ývolume ofý inateriai is now ndfer way. The most fruitf ni of ail sources ,of information is direct observa- lion of Canadian history casses in schools in each of thbe ten, -ProvinceA. This is bcing carried> ont by the young research assis- tants, ail of whomn arebinua honour graduates in history. Thie reports from these assistants will indicate any variations appearingI in the manlier in which Canadiali listory is interpreted and taught in each province. Mr. Hodgetts is fuhI of -enthlus- iasmn for this jbig uidertaking. He secs the po(ssibility . of the beginning of a more dynamie Canadian history A Canadian his- tory which miglit, in some cases, be re-interpreted in its teaching. He wants to sec the history of our nation rcscnýeted in a vital and exciting way . . . in a way which could make such teaching an effective instrument to foster greater understanding bctween the people of Canada's ten prov- inces.
