Judi Perry Brinkert · Special to the Beaver Childcare is one of the complimentary services available for people who need it while accessing support programs at Wellspring Halton-Peel. Playing with her children Christine and Nicole is Wellspring volunteer Lynn Novokowsky. Wellspring Halton-Peel celebrates second year Wellspring Halton-Peel marked its second birthday this summer by intro ducing a new program for the family members and friends of cancer patients. It marks its second anniversary on Saturday Sept. 21. Caregiver Connection provides peo ple who are caring for cancer patients with information and support, at no charge. The program is one of more than 30 offered at the centre, which has helped hundreds of men, women and children since opening its doors in Oak Park two years ago. "When I was first diagnosed with cancer, I thought my life was over, and sometimes wished that I had died while in the hospital," said Wellspring HaltonPeel member, Yaslyma, whose cancer left her depressed and barely able to move. "The volunteers and staff really helped me through my cancer," she explained, adding that before going to W ellspring she was terrified of chemotherapy and had no idea what to expect while enduring her treatments. "I learned that there was life after cancer - and that I didn't have to give up because I had this disease," she said. Wellspring m anager Judi Perry Brinkert explains that: "People are often afraid to walk through the door of a can cer support centre," a factor that makes the atmosphere at Wellspring so impor tant. "People cope with the disease in different ways, which is why we offer such a broad range of programs. For some people, the key is information about how they can deal with the emo tional, financial and physical effects of cancer. Others want to share their expe riences with people who have been there before them ," she added. Compared with last year, the level of program usage at Wellspring HaltonPeel more than doubled, while volun teer contributions grew to more than 6,500 hours. Located at 2545 Sixth Line, Wellspring Halton-Peel is one of five centres in the W ellspring network, which this year turns 10 years old. Wellspring centres provide emotion al, psychological and informational support, at no charge, to individuals and families living with cancer. Ada Loretta Salter - September 1 3 ,1 9 8 2 As our fam ilies have grown and the years have passed, we continue to remember our mother and father John who came to Oakville, Ontario, Canada in 1957 to provide a wonderful life for their daughters Nancy and Diane. Ada worked, loved, and enjoyed 26 years, at OTMH. in those times, a small physiotherapy department. She delighted in her grandchildren - both born at OTMH - Darrin and Mireille, and was an incredible influence on their lives and their successes today. She left suddenly September 13, 1982, but she continues to be a strength and influence in our lives every day. She live on in our hearts. "Someday we all have to part with those we love; they are not gone - love transcends even death.
