The re all proceedr temmilelong wtde flat sand beach drive that stretches from New Wasaga to Oakview and Springhurst beaches In some pla ces the drive has been reduced to strip which barely allows one car to pass another In several spots there is no beach at all and motorists would have to make continual detours to the back road and then p0 out at intervals where the be widens again and the water is back twenty or thirty feet from the high banks One well known summer inn has the water tapping at the front steps and big storm could do consid erable damage The drive near the mouth of the river is the widv est part of the beach and traffic can move from the main road to the West and east of the beach for limited distance of Orlllia presided Directors Report In her report to the gathering Miss Colle told of the successful summer program in 1931 when 6171 people were riirollid ii five days camps and at six swrmmmg areas for mini of ill sessions The most successful program had been undcr the excellent leadership of George Woods Mrs Gordon Todd of Churchill Miss Shirley Odd and Bruce Edgar of Baxter as well as other asststiints and volunteers There had also been gooddevcl opmcnt during tlic past your in the Simcoc County Arts and Crafts socizition under the chairmanship of Mrs Llcw Bcavcr of Barrie The third annual Quilt and Rug Fair had been held in Augustkand there had been arts and crafts weekends in June and September at which leadership had been given in weav ing art lcotlicrcrrift and stone col lecting countyWide art exhibit was held in early November The Simcoc County Recreation Service during the past year had also given assistance at the annual Rural Life Conference puppetry workshop and play school at Mid burst Same In 1929 This is not an entirely new sit uation Back in 1928 and 1929 the beach front owners went through the same nightmare but it did not thewatcr finally did rccedc the Daytona Beach of Canada was wider and smoother than ever The great majority of hotels cabins and cottages at Wasaga will not be directly affected by the high water trouble as the resort has been built up over great area along the river and back from the beach during the past ten years Business on the main road should boom and the cottage owners should have no trouble in getting bookings In fact many cabin and cottage owners are booked for the season right now bridge Wycvalc Collegiate Institute vice had sponsored ric playground lenders Nancy Isle In Trouble One tourist attraction will prob ably be out of reach of the visit ors this year The historic Nancy Island which houses the hull of the British warship Naricy relic of the war of 181214 has real high water trouble The bridge from the river bank to the island is still intact but the land at the island end of the bridge is well under water How ever if the water recedes few inches within the next few weeks this situation will eased con siderably When the water will recede is not known Somere ports are that the water will reach its peak about June and then gradually drop to more normal leveL Although the rising tide has caused anxiety along the banks of the Nottawasaga River to boat house owners there seems to be no cause for alarm due to the fact that the river is well sheltered from the ravages of big storm Along the beach front however big blow from the north east would cause plenty of damage at this tim but the people on the beach front have been taking that chance for thirty years One thing is certain All that ails Wasaga is that pesky high water on that nice long sandy beach The beach grade is very gradual and the slightest decrease in the water level would make all the difference in the world drop of only eight inches can wi den the beach by fteen feet As one beach front resort owner remarked Therer nothing we can do about it now We can just wait for that tide to go out 5x my AN EXAMINER WANT An uly 31 and Aug and arid committees special gratitude to her office as
