enlarging vices canteens The right to purchase such nec essary comforts as are found in the firmed scr prcsent canteens was upheld but the businessmen were firmly against an expansion of this priv ilege which would develop into dc partmentai stores It is expected that such canteen stores would be operated by mili tary personnel and would have free light heat quart61s and mis cellaneous services and would not be subject to taxes on profits Operating on an average markup of only over cost normal re tail prices would bc drastically un dercut The members pointed out that the retailer would be particularly hard hit by an expansion of can teens Along with the other tax payers he supports the armed ser vices which in turn would be pro viding unfaiicompctition to his business The development of station stores along the lines of the Post Exehange system in the United States is one of the principal ques tions facing Chambers of Com merce across Canada this month The discussion of the Barrie members Was to determine the 10 eal recommendation to be forward ed to the Canadian Chamber which represents 75000 of the countrys businessmen The possibility of purchasing abuses was also discussed and it was felt that in addition to los ing the market of service person nel local retailers would lose part of their civilian market as well as the facilities would be available to the civilian employees of the Department working on the station Tuesdays meeting held at Rob indale Inn was attended by 39 members COMING EVENTS Em Dance Brentwood Hall Friday January 14 Music by SimVar orchestra
