gt111 that it is of an lndian village before the ladvcnt of Illi white man to this tiilri The site was of village much smaller than that of Callirtttui which has already been examined by gioup iiiidcr Professor Mcll wraith and the evidence showed that it was more vidcly scattered No name can 111 attacltcd to the village and it is possible that it was only in cxrstcncc for few years Although the finds are not as numerous as in the ahiagiic site near Varniinstcr the new Bass Lake site is proving interesting arid number of pieces of pottery arrow heads and other items are being unearthed by the workers The site is on the farm run by William Sophcr and the archaeol ogy group are getting their meals at Mr Soplicrs farm They are sleeping 111 cabins nearer Bass Lake Several places about the farm have been cxaimncd and the most interesting of these is small area which extends toward the Town ship road The group have been working right to the edge of the road for the past few days and their only regret is that the road stands between them and further exploration in this direction As was the case at the other sites the workers are painstakingly scraping away the earth with small trowcls and all the items found are being placed in labcllcd paper bags Thc articles are later trans ferred to small cardboard cartons and already about eight of these cartons have been lled In July Irofcssor Mcllwrnitli took another group of students to Ossossanc ncar Midland where work was carried on The present group arrived at the Bass Lake site on August 16 and will conclude their efforts on Saturday This is the rst proFrench site that has been examined by the Professor and his workers and he hopes to explore even earlier sites other years The Bass Lake site was brought to the attention of PioszEoi McIlwraith through Hunters Simcoe County history This valuable history suggested the area as the site of an early Indian village In addition the farmers who have worked the area have from time to time unearthed number of interesting items The young workers have been broiling undrthehofsun these past few days as they scraped away at the Earthmcbecame thoroughly dirty and acqiiired fans
