in my blood said the burly 41ycamld native of Saskatoon And its still terrific life Rayner has just completed his fourth season as minor league coach in this northwest ern Ontario town of 11000 lts place of memories for him lie played goal three years for the junior Konora Thistles end ing in mo and then went to the National Hockey League Iirstwilh the old New York Americans and later with New York Rangers Now he handles the Kenorn intermediate Thistles and their junior edition in the same old naturalice arcna from which he jumped to the NHL Except for flecks of grey in his bushy black hair Rayner has changed little since his years in goal At 230 pounds he weighs in more than in 12 when bad knee helped him de cide to quit the NHL after 11 season Rayner won the Hart Iropby as the leagues most valuable player in 1950 and still counts that as his bi54moment in hockey He finds than playing The responsibility for the teams performance is on the coach Even the goaltender doesnt have this weighing on him When youre coaching youve got to deal with personalities Andthere are some guys you just cant do anything with Youve got to rule with an iron on frequent problem was to get yoltrtlng players to do as theyre to coaching tougher There are many kids about 18 who think they know how lo play in the NHL if anybody knows Rayner does He played 76 regular seasoo games in the NHL De spite the fact he spent much of his career with nlsorons he managed to make the second austar team three times and compile lifetime goalsagainst average of 293 Hockcy is only part of Ray ners present
