aboard coat collar up and scarf bundled tightly around his neck he headed right to seat With out word and tried to get some rest He was on his way with the rest of the Bay City Falcons for Georgian Bay Intermediate Hockey League game Cairns played one heck of fine game skating shooting and checking with his normal exuberance For two periods in the 54 loss be wasBarrles best player He was outshone in the finale only by the fine work of goaltender Don Rich On the trip back home Jimmy still bundled again tried to rest didnt speak with him until getting off the bus at the Five Points asked How do you feel He answered Ive got heck of head cold And that was it as far as he was concerned But that wasnt all of it Just few minutes before leaving Barrie around seven oclock Cairns was tele phoned and told that the club was mite shorthand ed Cairns left his bed wherehe He uttered no objection the misery was trying to shake but was waiting for the bus atop Hayfield within few minutes Falcons can lose lot long as they have of hockey games but as players like Cairns who shrug at personal discomfort to help the club they are wor thy of the greatest fan support Jimmy doesnt stand alone in this class Its just one of many examples of how these tried and true am ateurs who actually paid to play last winter go about enjoying themselves and at the same time give you some enjoyment the English football league produces some one game which stands out above the others as the thriller of the list Usually it is grim battle between two topranking teams But the palm for the most exciting and spectacular game this week goes to two teams fighting hard to escape relegation to the sec ond division the game between Fulham ond Chelsea on the farmers ground Chelsea won the game 43 with Peter Bra brook heading in the winning goal in the last minute of play to give his side two valuable points and bringing it on to level terms with Fulhom and Manchester City at the bottom of the table This Chelsea team is much better than its position in the league suggests and should soon climb to more respectable place in the league table But Fulham reinforced by the sign ing of Jackie Henderson from Arsenal gave the Pensioners their toughest game of the year before the issue was decided in the last minute goal scored against his own sidery Ful ham defender gave Chelsea onegoal lead at halftime Then the fireworks really started with every moment filled with excitement Chelsea scored two goals in four minutes to go up 30 Then in the next four min utes Fulham scored twice and soon after notched third goal to equalize The last 15 min utes were played in constant roar from the 36000 spectators until Brabrook took skilful centre by Blunstone squarely on his head to pilot the ball into the net for the winning goal This was the game that made the banner headlinesfor the week BURNLEY WELL AHEAD At the other end of the table Burnley are well ahead of see ondplace Spurs who could only draw at Cardiff Burnley now have 34 points for 23 games while Spurs have 23 points for 25 games Ipswich are on 31 and Everton on so The whole division is much better balanc ed than last season Tottenhnm are playing just as good football as year ago but several other teams have improved tremend ously and are giving the Spurs much hardencompetition From here it looks like Burnley hampionship unless they slip badly and Tottenhom run up succession of Victories Liverpool and Leyton Orient look like the two teams destin ed to winpromotion from the second division Liverpool are seven points and Leytou five points ahead of Southampton and Derby tied in third place and are pla gcoosistootly winning football The real tight stmggle is at the bottom of the league where Charlton havc at last struck good form and are like ly to climb while Bristol Rov ers Middlesblough and Leeds United should provide the two teams to go down In the third division Ports mouth are out in front of Bournemouth by four points but have two games in hand Peterborough with one game in hand are one point behind Bpurnemoutb but are being crowded by Reading and Cry stal Palace one and two points further back It is impossible to pick relegation candidates in this division as there are seven teams from which the unlucky four will come bunched at the bottom gt Keenest fight is for four pro motion places in the fourth div ision Wrexham and Colchester each have 38 points but Wrex hum have game in band Next are Aldershot and Mill wall tied at 33 points with Carlisie next with 81 But close behind are York and Working ton with 30 so that it is too early to pick the two teams to accompany Wrexham and Col chester into the third division In Scotland Dundee now have six points lead over both Rangers and Celtic with the Celts having played one game more than the others With Dundee keeping up their super altive soccer undefeated at home and with only one loss away from home they look like coasting home as champions barring accidents Kelly To Have Further XRay TORONTO CPlBed Kelly Toronto Maple Leafs cenrte eered hospital Thursday for further xvravs of his damaged knee Which has kept him out of action
