By STEVE JONESCU Sports Editor ADDED ATTRACTION Georgian Bay Intermediate Hockey League has another attendancebooster Hell help put extra people into every rink in the league You guessed it Hes Ray Gariepy of Bay City Falcons After terrific season with Barrie Lakeviews in 196061 Gariepy decided to call it quits He retires from the game every Second season Last Friday Ray made his initial appearance of 198162 season at Collingwood He wasnt in any con dition to play He hadnt been on skates shaltdozen times this winter However he did something Falcons havent been doing enough all season he shookup the first layer who made contact with him John Hill Shipbuilders captain needed rest after Ray connected with check at centre ice Gariepy got penalty for inter lerence For the rest of the night Ray was the clubs fourth and most tired defenceman Id suggest hes got couple weeks of hard skating before he becomes the big asset he was last winter Despite his belowpar evening Gariepy kept the crowd warm Every time he stepped on the ice moved step stopped or shot the puck or even breathed the fans started to scream This was reminiscent of last season Its remin iscent of any time Gariepy plays the game Hes color plus when he rounds into shape hell be color plus and effective Ray joins the ranks of draws such as Collingwood oalie Harry Lumley Meaford Chevles Charlie Mac Donald and soon Red Henry Orillias Nick Ken nedy Ilfidlands Bus Deschamps Barries always rug ged Howard Forbes and outstanding goalie Don Rich Hockey is scientific game among other things It needs the fellows who can excite drive and exctte the fans to near hysterics These abovementioned fellows can do both Theyre good for the game in every way As for Falcons if they can entice Dave Sanderson and Red Favero out of retirement the picture can only get brighter JUST NOTES Referee Bill Magiil who more often than not has impressed this writer with his o£ ficiatlng went the other way Friday He did nothing right Twice he sentenced Collingwoods Jim Nixon with ridiculous penalties Barrie got couple of these as well Then when fans threw paper on the ice Magill made no effort to either pickup the garbage himself or signal for the arena employees to do so it appeared he didnt give darn what might happen if player should skate over the refuse and tumble Just like Shipbuilders have maintained their mas tery over Falcons the locals hope to keep their hold over Meaford here tomorrow night Canadian sports writers and broadcasters did themselves proud in pooh poohing the idea that this country adopt the 11man football system as used in the United States Iil bet too that this influences some of the CFL bosses who meet on the subject in the near future MINOR HOCKEY IS FAMILY AFFAIR Brian Kinsella Scores
