Springtime in Paris to support women's shelter Halton Women's Place will hold its 20th annual Gala Auction Saturday, March 7. The Springtime in Paris-themed event will raise money and awareness for Halton's only women's shelter, which assists abused women and their dependent children by providing shelter and crisis services. Providing entertainment for the night will be the Julian Taylor Band. The Toronto-based band has released seven albums and has created a campaign around its song Be Good to Your Woman. Through its website, www. begoodtoyourwoman.com, the band is asking people to explain what it means to be good to women. The band's new CD, Tech Noir, will be on sale at the gala with $2 from each sale going to Halton Women's Place. The emcees for the evening will be CHCH Morning Live host Bob Cowan and his partner Elaine Falzon from the Halton Children's Aid Society. The gala will be held at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre. Tickets cost $150 each or $1,100 for a table of eight. The event includes a cocktail reception, sit-down dinner, open bar, one-of-a-kind jewelry draw, chocolate and candy station, live and silent auctions and dancing. Halton Women's Place will also host an International Women's Day Lunch on Monday, March 9, featuring guest speaker Aruna Papp, who will talk about honour-based violence.
