Environment Canada and Halton Region issued an extreme cold weather alert for the area on Thursday as gusty north winds of up to 50 km/h sent temperatures plunging to -30 C with the windchill. The deep freeze is expected to persist today (Friday) and into the weekend. Oakville-based The Weather Network is reporting temperatures could feel like -40 C with the windchill on Sunday (Feb. 15). The weather agency reported temperatures would warm slightly for Family Day, with sun in the forecast, but still feeling around -20 C with the windchill.
