"Family Day provides an opportunity to highlight many of the town's wonderful recreation, arts and cultural activities. I encourage everyone to come out, join in the fun and make some great memories together," said Mayor Rob Burton. On Monday (Feb. 16), families can take part in a variety of classes including boot camp, basketball and yoga, or discover local fossils at the Oakville Museum. Select Oakville Public Library branches will be offering storytime, while River Oaks and Glen Abbey community centres will offer a chance to get a photo taken on a Zamboni. The Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) will host Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre's performance of The Last Polar Bears. Tim Hortons has once again partnered with the Town to offer free swimming and ice time at participating pools and arenas. Those with grumbling tummies during the day can head to Glen Abbey and River Oaks community centres for a barbecue, pizza lunch, and drinks for purchase from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. A pizza lunch will be available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, and at QEPCCC from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Food trucks will also be on-site at QEPCCC. All proceeds will go to the Town's Recreation Connection Fund, to help families in need participate in recreational programs.
