www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, February 12, 2015 | 14 Mogus sisters in Top 10 entrepreneurial contest finalists Oakville sisters Julia and Emma Mogus are among the 10 finalists in a contest showcasing Canada's top entrepreneurs. The pair, founders of Books with no Bounds, was selected out of more than 1,400 submissions across Canada for the fifth annual Start Something with Alesse contest. Books with no Bounds is focused on mitigating some of the challenges faced by families living in northern Ontario's remote communities. The emergency shipment program, founded in 2013, has distributed more than 100 care packages of children's books, school supplies, crafts and toys to more than 100 families, to date. This year's finalists for the not-for-profit and for-profit categories were chosen by previous contest winners Leigh Boyle and Maike van Neikerk. "I was inspired by all the creative entries in the Start Something with Alesse contest this year," said van Neikerk, who won in the notfor-profit category last year. "We were looking for projects that were full of personality, creativity and sustainability," added Boyle. "There was a lot of competition, but I think these projects definitely stood out from the rest. I'm excited to see who makes it through as winners." The 10 finalists are in the running to win a mentorship and $5,000 to help them start their project, while runners-up will each receive $500. Canadians are invited to vote for their favourite project in each category, once per day with the for-profit and not-for-profit project with the fewest votes at the end of each round will be eliminated. The projects in both categories with the most ballots cast at the close of the voting period will each be deemed the winner. "Having gone through this process myself, I know how much passion is behind these ideas and I encourage Canadians to support the finalists by voting," said van Neikerk. k i x dx Crowdfunding is: c bd x p supporting p a b the What are you crowdfunding for? fuellocal.com is an online platform to raise money through crowdfunding: an opportunity for a collection of individuals to make donations in support of a cause.
