Five of the club's teams earned berths in the provincial finals for their respective divisions with semifinal wins last weekend in Ontario Soccer Association playoff action. The w om en's Storm and girls' under-12 Demons qualified for finals as did the boys' under- 14 Winstars, under-16 (Tier 1) Strikers and under16 (Tier 2) United. "This is probably the most teams we've had in the finals in five or six years," Rick Morandini, club head coach said. This year's results also indicate a shift in the balance of power among OSC teams. But being down more than a dozen regulars didn't stop them from beating Stoney Creek Saltfleet Proto 2-0 in their semifinal match. And McKenna says it shouldn't stop them from having a good chance to win the Cup either. "Our replacements are really strong so we didn't lose very much," said McKenna. "I went to the Ontario Cup last year and we were the biggest of favourites and we lost so, no predic tions. If our players want it, it's there for them to go and get." To qualify for the final, the Storm used goals from veteran Tiffany Meinen and under-19 player Amanda Di Carlo to beat Proto. The Storm is set to play the South Nepean Iron Eagles in the final, sched uled for Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. Preparing for the provincial final against South Nepean should be a straight forward process for the Storm. The Oakville women beat the Iron Eagles recently in league play and are familiar with the Ottawa-area team 's playing style. But they're not taking them lightly. "I watched them play (in the semifi nals)," McKenna said. "They have to be a good team to get this far, to get to the finals." The under-12 girls' Demons will play London Supernova Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. They qualified for the final by beating Ajax 2-1 in semifinal action. All Ontario Cup final games will be played in the Grove Fields in Vaughan, Ont., at the Coffee Time Soccer Centre. The centre is located north of Hwy. 407 on Martin Grove Rd.
