cooperated and provided warm sunny day for the annual bus trip of the Beeton Womens Institute This year members travelled to Collingwood via Wasaga Beach The itinerary included time for shopping tour of Colling wood and dinner at the Little Red Hen restaurant The bus driver John Lang don of King Planned the tour and acted as advisor The first visit was to the Blue Mountain Pottery which took members along the Blue Water Highway in an attractive location with display of several larger pottery vases and ornaments at the en trance Members were impressed by the method of production and the interesting history of the plant related by the guide From there members travel led to the Georgian Bay China factory on the outskirts of Colv lingwcod The tour commenced in the building where white china was unpacked and in spected and the different appli cations of designs embossed It is situated The visitors took advantage of shopping in the retail outlet of the factory tour of Smarts Cnnneries proved most interesting to the WI homemakers They were amazed at the assembly line production and the employees attired in neat blue uniforms with sparkling white turbans It was strawberry conning time at the cannery and long conveyor belts took the fresh red fruit through washing sort ing and weighing stages The cookers and labelling machines were most interesting Alter the tour members were taken to the observation floor overlooking the Collingwood Shipyards where they could see ship being erected Before leaving the factory the members were presented with tin of freshly canned berries The latter part of the tour was spent at Springwnter Park Midhurst where they visited points of interest before return ing to Beeton Members are looking forward to their tour next year her husband are in charge of the Salvation Armys correc tion service here In the beginning the boys ap peared hostile at being forced to goto the meetings Lack of attention and continual commo tion marked the early difficult days But for more than year now services have been or derly and there have been tre quent expressions of gratitude from the boys PRIDE IN SUCCESS We really miss them when they but were roud them when we hear of them do ing well saysMrs ODonnell Boys have approached them on the street thanking the couple for helping them back on the right track The biggest thrill and big gest surprise of her life came last Christmas when just be fore the Bowden meeting was to begin the boys presented her with the largest box of wow latesl have ever seen Enclosed was card signed by time there was lot of concern shown for the youth of Barrie and there was absolutely nothing or the senlt ior residents Mrs Lee said FIRST MEETING The first meeting for the sen ior citizens was held at the Loyal True Blue Hall High St Mrs Lee recalled and there were only nine persons pres ent The Loyal True Blue Hall was chosen because of the few steps and is still used as the meeting place Mrs Lee has always been in terested in the welfare of the older citizens of the city and has worked very closely with them since the club was organ ized The club has grown gradual ly and now boasts 110 members who meet each Wednesday af ternoon for game of cards singsong and informal get together Senior citizais look forward to the annual fundraising tea and bazaar as their way of helping with
