North Collegiate Last week was very busy one for students at NorthCol lcgiate It began on Monday with an announcement advis ing everyone to check the vet ing lists or the election The first two days there Es groupmindthofifléfin hoards most at the time checking to see it their names were on the lisLs so they would be eligible to vote on Friday Tuesday was the first day of campaigning for president oi the Student Council As stu dents entered the school in the morning they saw the work which had been done the night before by the campaign man agers and supporters in setting up the numerous and varied as sortment of posters Between Pnopsie and Dennis the Menace the school took on quite an un usual air While the student body was having lun campaigning and choosing sides the central com mittee in charge of voting was busily collecting ballot boxes having ballots printed determ ining the location of polling booths and the dozen other details necessary to be sure got voting would go oh smooth This year the students voted before nine at noon and after RCA VICTOR NEW VISTA Pulls in distant stations clearer our and very good percent age of people voted ASSEMBLY Thursday was big day in many respects Firstly it was the day ior Student Council elections assembly The assem bly begun with introductions of all theeandidates then an ex piinfihon by the chief returning otficer on the proper voting procedure followed by the speeches and skits One skit was portrayed in the true beatnik fashion with the unusual and unexpected lilrs Vandertamp appearing on the scene Another was lesson in modern art with the ingred ients taken from the kitchen in stead of from paint jars most interesting collection of modern hit parade numbers was played by the Cavaliers an really set the joint ajump The speeches of the candidates showed intelligence and genuine interest in their school We knew that whoever won would make good president Thursday was also dressup day There were beatniks girls wearing mens ties boys shirts and an assortment of costumes lm surethat to passersby lnantfirid have seemed that the whole school had gone mad There was mus ic at the west end of the hall supplied by the Cavaliers and dancing on the parking lot and up to 45 sharper and orazy clothes all over the place The event which made us very happy on Thursday was our victory over Alliston in both the junior and senior football games Friday the school took on serious air as the voting was brought to the lore This was carried out without any mishaps and the students seemed to on ioy the greater democracy of this way of voting After the polling booths closed the history room buzzed with pulling clerks counting ballots and marking results on the charts prepared on the boards To anyone en tering the room the hustle and bustle gave the impression of the Toronto Stock Exchange COUNCIL When the results were counted and checked they read as fol lows president Jon Fell lst vicepresident Joilliie and Grade representative Doug Smith Our congratulations to tho winners and we are contident that this year will be the best weve had for Student Council activities As everyone in the city knows last Saturday was the ludhope Thompson meet Our boys did well in placing second in the ludhope The events won by our boys were junior high jump Nicholson polo vaut Campbell intermediate 100 yard dash Patrick high jump Bradley pole vault An derson shot put lones sen ior pole vault lackhart and the junior relay Congratula tions to the winners and the other contestants who placed for North The events which our girls won were junior 50yard dash Besse senior fiyard clashr Lentsius Our girls also placed well in the eventsnnd were third in Thompson Cup standing Lastly would like to express our
