required for the operation of the schools as requested bythc trustccs levy will be in the neighborhood of $53 00000 for this year This does not include any repayment of deben tures which are chargeable to this area The mill rate of last year at 81 mills failed to provide Suffi cient funds to carry through and an verdraft Of $5000 is to be off set hich is part of the total mentioned above The total assess ment in the area for public schools amounts to about $4070000 The increase in the general expenses is attributed to salary raises and other increased costs The total assessment for the Barrie and Dis trict High School is about $4095 000 as an additional section is in cluded in that area The amounts needed for this school are not yet available The general rate for township purposes has not yet been set Unless the expenditures on char ity and relief which are very highmake it necessary to raise it it is likely that this mill rate will be the same as last year which on the increased assessment will be quite substantially increased This same appliSe to the school boards Relief accounts were ponderous this month and although not totalled up are estimated at over $1500 Park ConcessiOn Let Mrs George Constable and her brotherinlaw Charlton have been successful inobtahiilng the townShip park concession again this year Their tender for $1000 was accepted although there dangerous and if the obstructions to the north were removed it would be satisfac tory An offer by the Board of Transport was made that three way plan be adopted that they the railway and township didnt produce so much the price would be better In his remarks be inferred that extension workers should turn the major part of their energies to ward solving marketing problems We are all familiar with the workings of supply and demand in affecting price Any school boy can figure that 300bag crop Of potatoes at $150 per bag is better than 600bag crop at 50¢ per bag Then in years when the GOObag crop develops would it be sensible to market only 300 bags keep the price at $150 and feed the balance of the potatoes to livestock Popular thinking suggests an an swer in the affirmative Orderly marketing of aproduct can avoid wide price fluctuations To effect orderly marketing producers must be organized One farmer holding back half his potato crop would produce no results an organized effort is necessary Once group of producers is convinced of the need of organiza tion the extension worker then can and will give valuable assist ance He can do very little toward the cause by working with individ uals 0n the other hand to help solve production problems he must work with individuals Marketing is group problem production problem of the individual That is why the marketing problem is so much more difficult to solve Wallace Greenlow Heads Elmvole 4H Club ByJOANNE McGltATll Wallace Greenlaw was made pres ident of Elmvale 4H Calf Club for 1954 at the organization meeting held at the
