THE HARRY EXAMINER WEDNESDAY AUGUST SI 1m SPORTS TYPE By STEVE JON SCU Sports Editor NEED WAS THERE Allandale Lumberjacks straightgames loss to Waterloo in the rooent Ontario Baseball Association Juvenile series is feather in the cap of the Barrie Minor Athletic Club Heck no loss is really nothing to be proud of especially with the loud scores recorded against our lads The defeat proved that the community is in need of minor baseball Waterloo isnt that good club Lumberjacks arent that bad The difference was experience Its been many years lslnce Juvenileaged boys in Barrie had chance to play baseball Only opportunity for our youngsters has been provided by the Legion and it was for the youngest of athletes The BMAC is not bemoaning the loss in the first round It is quite proud of the youngsters These boys will be back next year Theyll be bit more experi enced and were positive more enthused We feel too that Barrie will have more than one good Ju venile club Friends of the players admired their uni formed buddies Now theyd like to get into the act The BMAC wants them too This summer the club sponsored one juvenile club one midget and two bantam teams The ban tams are the luckiest Theyve started younger and will have more time to progress All of our kids have lot to learn about baseball Coaches cannot do much more than scrape the sur face in one year Next year the boys will know bet ter where they like to play The coaches will know which position the individual can handle The boys will know more about playing the hitters or how to move in the batters box to hit certain type of pitching Oh yes Some good thumpings can do lot more good than easy victories Were impressed with the eagerness of these youngsters Their eagernes to learn has been helpful to the coaches who prob ably didnt realize at the start but they had the toughest jobs of all Win lose or draw it was good year for many youngsters It was even better for baseball in gen eral Barrie now has more kids playing the game It can mean nothing less than improvement for the intermediate club in the future This winter BMAC is going to throw in strength in the direction of minor hockey helping if it can the organizations already going and revamp ing those that are in need JUST NOTES lorgis Automotives will play benefit game against Allenwood and Elmvale All Stars at Elmvale Friday night in aid of an Elmvale youth who recently had legamputated Game time at Elmvale Park is 645 Its good game fora good cause Lets see you folks out there in grEat number With the StewartsEGAF softball series com ousted from the BDSSL playdowns theyre not through for the year They plan to enter the Copaco Series Deadline for entries to this event is September Harry Couse does two things differently than the other pitchers in the senior softball loop He pitches bit better in the clutch thats when he comes into game anyhow and he runs off the field at the end of the inning The latter is unusual for pitcher Maybe Harry just runs to keep his old bones from getting stiff The Torgis guys have been hitting the ball Moe Mihalech the clubs earlyseason hitting sensation before being felled by injury may not see any more action this year Moe is still on the limp but that shouldnt hinder his mighty swing too much Match Play Golf Starts qualifying round Tuesday held in conjunction with the interprovin cial team
