SPORTS TYPE By STEVE JONESCU Sports Editor ACT SCENE II Act Scene concerned the horrible condition of the baseball outfield at Barrie Fair Grounds owned by the Barrie Agricultural society We wrote in that scene that someone had made mess of the field by cutting here and there and no where in partlcular The result was terrible look lng field which was hazard not only to good ball but to the players It took whole day for someone to submit dissentv ing voice to the column It came from William Mal comson manager of the above mentioned society Mr Malcomson first chastised us for what he term ed treading on an innocent partys toes The name mentioned was mystery to us and besides we were complaining about the field not anyone in particular The BASmarlager then said he did not know for sure who would have cut PART of the outfield grass The Examiner found out Mr Malcomson also said the responsiblllty of the baseball area was solely that of the ball club Barrie LA Flyers that used it He said it has been that way for years He said that the society hasnt the right to spend any money on anything but agriculture The ball field is not agriculture we agree He said the society couldnt even spend penny of agriculture money on the track The ruling body apparently feels the track for horse races is not necessary part of Ialr or agriculture So we asked Mr Mdlcomson the right question He answered Yes we take cut of the Flyers gates We can use thismohey for improvements However he intimated that it wasnt enough to do much good In the meantime we contacted Jim Savage the hardworking bossman of the Parks Board Jim ad mitted that someone on his staff did the cutting of the outfield grass He said it must have been wet day that made the cutter curtail operations He said too that while his department is not technically re rn sponsible for the field it would complete the job whenever weather and ground conditions permit so why does the Parks Board cut the grass inside the track Because said Jim we keep our machines in one of the Agriculture Society buildings Weve agreed to cut the grass in appreciation Analysis of the play so far Barrie Ellyers use the park The Fair people say it is the clubs responsibility to maintain the playing area The Parks Board says it will continue to out the grass Jonescu says some thing had better be done in hurry or Barrie will be the site of the worst baseball facilities in the South Simcoe Baseball Circuit JUST NOTES See where Harvey Singleton former footballer withToronto Balmy Beaches of the ORFU has had talk with the Toronto Argonaut manage
