Dad will be sadly missed by his children Thom (Suzanne), Jock (Heather) of Kelowna BC, Cindy Smith (Barry) of Sydney Australia and Marty, (Donna) of Grimsby and his youngest brother Jim (Betty) Victoria BC. Predeceased by brothers George and Doug. Granddad will always be remembered by Brett, Amy, Dylan, Eve, Jessica, Trevor and Matthew and his great grandchildren Carter, Rhys, Sydnee, Charlie, Hudson and Isobel. Born in Vancouver, Dad moved east to pursue a career in banking, unfortunately a war interrupted his plans and he joined the Air Force. A sassy lady from Oakville grabbed his eye and held his undivided attention for the next 70 plus years. Dad returned from overseas to join Bell Canada where he was a manager for 36 years. Dad was a community person where he refereed hockey and umpired baseball in Oakville and he would moonlight from Bell as a DJ and call and teach square dancing. He was until recent years active in Probus and with the Telco Community Volunteers. Dad was active parishioner at St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church, serving as a Warden on several occasions. More recently he dedicated himself to Mom, making sure she wasn't lonely and had company at any activities held at Wyndham Manor. The family would like to thank Jill, Dianne, Ian and Karen and the staff at Trafalgar Lodge and Maplecrest Village for their wonderful and loving support of both Mom and Dad. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Cuthbert's Church or the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ward Funeral Home 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 Wednesday, January 28 followed by a funeral service at St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church, 1541 Oakhill Drive, Oakville, ON. A passionate builder of all things, his family fondly remembers reams of graph paper strewing the floor, containing plans to build everything from sport programs to houses. Jack's love of sport encompassed being a world-class backyard rink builder, teaching the neighbourhood children how to swim and skate and organizing seniors' golf tournaments. His proudest accomplishment as Chairperson of the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association was playing a role in developing an Olympic Freestyle legacy for Canada. He remained a passionate volunteer in retirement, teaching seniors to adapt to new technologies and serving at St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church. In his 70's, Jack became a Level 1 ski instructor so he could teach his grandchildren to ski. A true gentleman who cared for everyone's feelings in the many people whose lives he touched, Jack Gardner is now dancing in heaven and skiing some powdery clouds.
