The website allows participants to register as an individual or organize a team; creating a personal page and recruit pledges from family and friends online. Organizers note the McMaster 5K Run has a required $40 registration fee. Participants are also invited to create a tribute to the person they are walking for by bringing stories and photos to post on the memory boards at the event. The Alzheimer Society has a new community program, launched last year, to promote education of memory loss and brain health within Halton's diverse and multicultural communities. "The goal will be to reach out to individuals and care partners, from a wide range of cultures, who may be socially isolated and at-risk for developing a cognitive impairment," said Arbour. "Through improved community partnerships, and brain health and memory loss awareness, it is believed there will be an increase in the provision of appropriate supports and services that can alleviate stress and increase safety for older adults within Halton's multicultural communities."
