Halton Region honours employee killed in GO bus crash by Michael Gregory Oakville Beaver Staff 13 | Thursday, January 22, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com A 56-year-old Brampton woman who was killed in a GO bus crash last week while on her way to work at York University was also an employee of the Region of Halton. Flags at the Halton Regional Centre were lowered to half-mast on Monday in honour of Radika Nankissoor. The woman was ejected and trapped under the bus after the vehicle hit a guardrail and landed on its side on Hwy. 407 in Vaughan last week (Wednesday, Jan. 13). The Region confirmed Nankissoor had been a personal support worker at Allendale in Milton since 2006. "Halton Region staff send their thoughts and prayers to Radika's family and friends during this most difficult time," said Halton Region spokesperson Andrea Montgomery, Monday. Nankissoor had also worked as a custodian at York University for the past five years and was headed to the school for a shift when the bus crash occurred. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Nankissoor was pronounced dead at the scene, and the cause of the single-vehicle crash is under investigation. The bus is undergoing inspection for any defects and police questioned the 66-yearold bus driver, who was treated for minor injuries. Two female passengers, a 22-year-old from Richmond Hill and a 23-year-old from Thornhill, were also taken to hospital, treated and later released. Schmidt said they are trying to determine what caused the collision. The roads were clear and dry at the time. It's the first passenger fatality in the history of GO Transit.
