www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, December 19, 2014 | 38 Artscene Oakville author's new book full of bologna Oakville Place is hosting a book signing for local author Kevin Phillips' first book The Bologna Cookbook Monday (Dec. 22). Phillips will be at the 240 Leighland Ave. mall at Coles from 1-4 p.m. to sign copies of his Globe and Mail bestseller. The book will also be available for purchase. The Bologna Cookbook is the first ever allbologna cookbook, featuring 200 recipes with the main ingredient being bologna. "Kevin's initial plan was to resurrect and share some of his favourite old-time recipes online. He intended to focus on old, lost recipes, but as the number of bologna recipes increased to well over 200, he decided to concentrate entirely on bologna," stated to a news release. Phillips was born in Cape St. George, N.L., in the mid-1950s. After completing high school, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He served more than 33 years in the Regular Force and retired in 2010 as a master warrant officer. Phillips attended the College of Trades and Technology in St. John's, N.L., and received a diploma in community recreation leadership. In the military, he was trained as a signals operator. Upon retirement, Phillips completed a certificate program in baking arts from George Brown College in Toronto. He also graduated with honours from the culinary management program at Liaison College in Oakville. "Kevin quickly realized that bologna is not exclusive to Newfoundland -- in fact, this sausage is enjoyed by people from all parts of the country -- and he decided to publish his recipes in book form," said the release. "The Bologna Cookbook outlines easy-tomake recipes for mouth-watering dishes such as Cheesy Bologna Calzones, Balsamic Peppercorn Bologna Steak, and more." Phillips is currently working on his undergraduate degree through the University of Manitoba's military program. He lives in Oakville with his wife, Rena.
