New skating rink coming to Bronte Heritage Park The Bronte Heritage Park will host a new community ice rink, and recruitment has started for volunteers to help with the winter maintenance. The rink is to open later this month, weather permitting, and will be one of nine outdoor facilities across Oakville where residents can lace up their skates. "For a long time, we've had an ice surface in Bronte," said Ward 1 Town Councillor Ralph Robinson. "I've talked with staff on several occasions about returning this rink to Bronte. We're happy that staff have made this commitment to the benefit of all area residents." Ward 1 Town and Regional Councillor Sean O'Meara said the rink demonstrates a unique partnership between local business, resident groups and the Town. "Just steps from Lake Ontario, the Bronte Creek and Bronte's fabulous shops, Heritage Park ice rink is truly Oakville's winter destination for residents of all ages," he said. Anyone interested in helping to flood and clean the ice surface is encouraged to contact Robinson, O'Meara, the Bronte Village Residents Association (BVRA) or the Bronte BIA. The Town hopes the rink will bring more people to downtown Bronte, and provide an alternative to the natural ice on Bronte Marsh. Mary Roberts, chair of the Bronte BIA, said the BIA is pleased to see the rink created through collaboration with the Town and BVRA. "Our business community is very encouraged by the launch of this winter attraction that will draw more people to our community, outside of the summer months," she said. BVRA president Ana Hourahine also said she was excited for the benefits of having another rink will bring to the neighbourhood. "Having an attraction like this in the heart of Bronte will have obvious recreational benefits for residents and all who visit and wish to explore Bronte," she said. 15 | Friday, December 19, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com DiversifieD financial services Since 1988 Yorkville Limousine Ltd World Class Executive Limousine Service Yorkville Limousine is pleased to welcome Mr. Tomasz Kopij to the team.
