were hosts to our Dominion president the Very Rev Dean Anderson and his official party it was singular honor to have lilm pay visit here because throughout the whole of Ontario there were not too many branches fine committee was set up to prepare for this oc cation The visitation to the Camp Borden areas the program cover ing the Town of Barrio the fine banquet held in Trinity Hall and the splendid 1955 was 472 members Compared to Dec 31 1854 it meant decrease in the year of 25 mcmbers Actual sus cnsions for NPD in 1955 amountc to 77 This should present challenge to the 1956 membership committee that what we have well hold The branch regrets the loss iy death in 1955 of the following comrades Louis Drown John Lee Jock Shaw Jack Phillips James Gill NORDERI MORAN the Clyde Bros indoor Circus chance to see first class circus was afforded this community and much favorable comment was re ceived from various citizens thanking us for sponsoring such fine show The branch realized approximately $500 on this effort which was the only legitimate means of raising any funds the past year due to ear draws being banned At the meeting of June the presentation of The Citizen of the Year award was made to the win her Rev James Ferguson with Fred Grant as runnerup The meeting was open to the public During the month of October one of the Legion University Scholarships was awarded to local student BeverleyWestman of Tollcndal The formal presen tation of the award was made at adistrict meeting held in Port Carling as suggested by Provin cial Command The POPPY Tag Days held Nov and were most successful due to the outstanding efforts of those members who volunteered complete summary of the Poppy Fund will be given later in this report The Remembrance Day service the past year was outstanding and again it was the full cooperation of you members who made it p054 sibic disclaim any credit for it As you know the whole scr Vicc was held at the Cenotaph where in my humble opinion is tbe proper place for such ser vice The fine turnout of the citizens and the splendid cover age given to it by the press think justifies it In December we awarded priz es to the Legionvsponsored essay
