The eleventh of November is, for them, the day vhen the Allies and Germany signed the armistice that was to bring an end to the bloodshed and horror of the war. A new generation has, however, grown up since 1918. It was fitting that, with the lapse of time,, the n should be changed from Armistice Day to Remembrance Day. The new name, Remembrance '. suggests several memories. Are we to think of the four years when war was raging in Europe? Are we to think of the guns, the barbed-wire, the flying, tearing fragments of Iron and steel? Are we to think of gas that burned the lungs out of living men? Are we to think of submarines and battle ships? Are we to think of 'aeioplanes that swooped over colunms of marching men and over unguarded villages or that fell twisting through the air in screaming flames? Such memories are apt to lead us cn in a direction which is not desirable. We do not want to remember the hatred thtat existed be'ween tions who forgot that a language and racial heritage can make men neither more or less human. We do not want to rememiber the blundering inefficiency and delay that cost many human lives. We do not want to remember the selfishness and incredible folly that sent men to death or pain-wracked maimed living. No; Remembrance Day is kept for the sake of honouring those who suffered in the war and rose above their suffering. It is because a blind and unquestioning loyalty and patience that was heroic; it is because men fought bravely and showed manific-ent courage in facing physical and mental onslaughts; it is because men, in the midst of death, were able to laugh and write poetry and pray; it is because the common ordinary man showed that, in spite of its folly ana brutality, there was a spark of the divine in humanity, that we keep Remembrance Day. Let us forget all the rest, but let us remember that vision of divinity in humanity that shone through, time and again, during the Great War. Did you hear the broadcast evening last week in which a Toronto architect commended the pioneers of Colborne for planinng a town in which every important street opened upon a beautiful central park? Do Coliborneites recognize that this valuable asset is quite unique among Ontario towns and villages? Two new pupils have registered at ihe Colhorne Hgh School: Dorinel Osborne, formerly of Toronto, Earl Metcalfe, of Bancroft. Firs Form Georgraphy THE Bread Diet is a safe reducing diet. It takes off pounds. Yet you will feel splendidly energetic while you reduce -- not weak and irritable. Extreme diets cut down too much on energy foods, and they often break down vital tissues. Avoid the extreme diet, unless your doctor advises it. Everyone should know that bread itself is nor fattening. It is not just a "starchy" food-- but a combination of energy-giving carbohydrates and a special form of protein that helps burn up fat while you are reducing. If you want to reduce safely, follow the Bread Diet. It gives bread as the main part of your energy food. The followng students form made the highest ma ir of merit in Geography.
