ATRENS-MIKAN, Larissa Deanne January 3, 1993 - September 24, 2007 Don't think of Larissa as gone away her journey continues on life holds so many facets this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how Larissa must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. But think of Larissa as living in the hearts of those she touched for nothing loved is ever lost and Larissa is loved so very much! Forever in our hearts, Best Friend, Mom, "Big" Brother Damian, Special Aunt, Trudy and Nana too. P.S. - `"Hugo" and "Boss" will be here soon!! BEATTY, Doug Died: December 23, 2014 Born: September 27, 1927 in Long Branch Ontario, Douglas Beatty was a loving dad survived by his children: Janet Cottrill, Lee Beatty and Wesley Beatty, along with his four grandchildren Cacey Cottrill, Chad, Kurt and Nigel Beatty. Doug was an amazing athlete and won awards in almost every sport he participated in. He was a member of swim and golf clubs; on lacrosse teams, hockey teams and liked badminton in addition to being a coach of many of those sports. He was an avid marathon runner for many years running the Boston Marathon twice. Doug rode his bike every morning up until a few months before this passing and was a feature of the West Oakville landscape on his early morning rides. Doug was an active member for most of his adult life of St. Paul's United Church. Many church members were long-time friends who also acted as part of his extended family. Doug started his career in the Air Force and it was during that time he met Terry who became his wife of 55 years; they married October 1, 1958. Doug was a diesel truck mechanic for International Harvester Trucks for a good portion of his working career and then officially retired from Oakville Hydro. He then became the custodian for St. Paul's United Church. More recently, he was a crossing guard at the corner of Bridge Road and Stanfield Drive, helping the students of Gladys Speers Public School cross the road safely for the last ten years. Doug had a distinctive Roy Rogers-shoot em-up finger pistol that was a huge hit with all the young at heart. Doug's three children always remember their father making, designing or crafting something in wood. Both Doug and his wife Terry who passed away earlier this year on April 29, 2014, passed before their time. Just the night before, she was sorting through Christmas presents and praying with family. She leaves behind son Glyn and his children, Andrew (Mary), Sarah and Rachel and his granddaughter Adalee; daughter Gay Gretton (Stephen) and her children Michael, Jeremy and Joel; and daughter Kim Jakubauskas (Miles) and her children Brendan and Katie and her stepdaughter, Alanna. Barbara's weekly phone calls to her precious sisters Joan Fortier (Norman) and Mary Giroux will be missed as will her humour, generosity, faith and love, expressed in so many ways with her many dear friends and the wonderful staff and fellow residents at Post Inn Village. What a generous heart she had - always thoughtfully giving her things (jewelry, inspirational books, baking, candy and stuffed bears) and herself away, and always happy to share her faith and a prayer. We feel such deep sorrow at losing her, yet a deep joy that she left without suffering and she is now experiencing life as it was meant to be. A service to celebrate Barbara's life will take place at Chartwell Church, 228 Chartwell Road, Oakville on Saturday, January 3rd at 11 a.m. with visitation prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. and a reception following. If desired, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Canadian Cancer Society, The Hospital for Sick Children, The Willow Foundation, Living Truth Ministry or a charity of your choice.
