www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, December 11, 2014 | 30 Time theme of new art installation at Sheridan's Trafalgar campus Emerging Canadian artist Jon Sasaki wants people to think of the future with his latest public art installation at Sheridan College's Trafalgar Campus. Officially unveiled last month, the outdoor work of art, titled A Clock Set 24 Hours into the Future, is a digital clock mounted above the main entrance of the 1430 Trafalgar Rd. campus and described as a practical fixture with a thought-provoking twist. "Unlike most campus clocks, this one will be set 24 hours fast, always displaying tomorrow's time," said Sasaki. "Of course, tomorrow's time is indistinguishable from today's time and therein lies a small bit of levity that I hope will open up a range of interpretations." A juried group made up of Sheridan staff and community members unanimously selected Sasaki's piece for the institution's third annual Temporary Contemporary initiative, after a call for proposals went out earlier this year. The program is an opportunity to showcase the talents of high-profile artists in the community external to Sheridan to help animate public spaces on campus with "engaging and creative work." "Sheridan's students, faculty and staff are able to connect with the broader art community and the artist's work inspires unique opportunities for curriculum integration," said Ronni Rosenberg, dean of Sheridan's Faculty of Animation, Art and Design. Sasaki has been featured at numerous solo exhibitions including shows at the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, the Dunlop Art Gallery, the Prairie Art Gallery, the MacLaren Art Centre and the Art Gallery Artscene L I N S T E "Connected to your Community" A D C D L A U N C H The art installation seen above, titled A Clock Set 24 Hours into the Future, is by emerging Canadian artist Jon Sasaki. The installation will be on display for one year and the honour comes with a cash prize. Last year's Temporary Contemporary installation was Roula Partheniou's work titled Dopplekopf 2013, which was featured in the Learning Commons at Sheridan. Her piece included mirrored objects in colour and shades of grey, and Canadian Art Magazine featured her work, highlighting the Sheridan installation. Tullo to hit U.K. airwaves as featured artist Oakville country/rock musician Anthony Tullo will be featured as an international artist of the week on U.K. radio host Tom Lambert's show, from Dec. 13-19. The online Independent Music Show boasts 1.8 million listeners per month, according to its website, www.theindependentmusicshow.com. Tullo's single Back That Truck Up is going coastto-coast on Canadian airwaves and it made the top 16 at the New Canadian Music for Singles for the week of Nov. 17. He has also released singles One Day and Oil, internationally. All three songs are part of his new album Switching Tracks, which includes original music and covers. "I believe in great hooks and great lyrics and I think that's what makes the success of a song," Tullo told the Oakville Beaver in a previous interview. His Back That Truck Up single and new album are backed by music promoter Linda Dawe, who helped launch the careers of Roch Voisine, Rita MacNeil and Blue Rodeo's 1987 hit ballad Try. "The key to having the opportunity to be able to launch a song is to have somebody with a track record believe in you and sign you on," said Tullo.
