7 NORSHORE SENTINEL Thursday, December 15, I960 DORION-HURKETT HAPPENINGS Building BEE DAY was held at the rink on Dec. 4 with only five men in attend dance. Where were the resr of the citizens of Hurkett? Are they interested at all in making any sort of recreation for children? It seems to me that all these people can do is complain and make suggestions as to what should be done, but when the work comes you’ll not find one of them out. The rink committee wishes to thank the following people who took enough time out to better the rink, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Nicol and family of Nipigon, former residents of Hurkett; Mary Boyko and Bill; Mr. and Mrs. Geo Coulombe; Theresa; Holtzman, Bill Holder, William Angeloff, Vic Larocque and Mel Cates. To all you little fellows who helped carry boards, we want to thank you too. Let us see some of the folks from the other end of Hurkett also come out and do their share. Jerry Shea of Hurkett has returned home after a stay in hospital. Norman Jardine of Dorion returned home from his trip to New Brunswick where he visited his parents. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art Harris were Mrs. Harris’ brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Reg Blunt of Estevan, Sask. *** Thirteen members answered roll call at the monthly meeting of the Stirling Lyons Women’s Institute, Wednesday night in the W.I. Hall. At this meeting Mrs. Eva Deleff donated $3.00 toward the bazaar for work she had done in the hall. The W.I. will order 45 Xmas stockings for the pre school children who will attend the concert on Dec. 21. A donation of $2 was made to the T.B. Seals. A report was given by Mrs. Mildred Fio Rioto on "Voice of Wompn†which was sent to her by Mrs. Fred Davis. At this meeting the members held an exchange of gifts for the Xmas season. Miss Flossie Hodgkinson was enrolled as a new member. Following the meeting the members presented Mrs. Louise Sobkowich who had a son on Nov. 26 with baby gifts. The door prize, donated by Ethel Fenr, was won by Louise Sobkowich. The 4-H Club girls served. CAMERON FALLS CALLING by Marion Lake The tempo of the season quickens. The cookie jars and freezers gradually fill up, the mail bags begin to bulge deliciously - and the world obligingly turns white. In mounting frenzy, the housewife rushes on â€" one eye on the calendar and one on the oven. Will she make it? There’s one thing sure as Xmas â€" we won’t! *** The Ontario Hydro, Nipigon line crew celebrated 1,000 accident free days with a banquet on Wednesday night in the Normandie Hotel. In recognition of their accomplishment they received another bar for their safety plaque. 1 M.C. for the evening was Don Haig, superintendent of Nipigon river plants. Attending the affair was D.I. Nattress, Regional Manager and Mrs. Nattress, E. Elvish, Safety Officer and Mrs. Elvish, W. Looney, Operations Engineer and G. Wesa, Line Maintenance Superintendent. The draw for the travel clock offered with the December bingo was made Friday by Delores Rintala. The lucky winner was Mrs. Burt Douglas who reported that it was "the first thing she’d ever won.†Congratulations Margaret! The jack pot prize was not claimed in this month’s bingo. To qualify for it, the top row of the card had to be filled from within the first fifteen numbers drawn. The prize for the X has already been won by Lionel Bouvier, lineman, of Nipigon. Still to go are the H and "full house.†*** Cameron Falls Hospital Auxiliary finally had their meeting last week in the hall with Eppie Hodges presiding. A cheque will be sent to a local record store for a record as a gift to the nurses in the Hospital. The nurses will choose their own recording. On Jan. 21 in the Elks Hall Nipigon, Red Rosck and. Cameron Falls will pool their efforts in a tea and bake sale. Cameron and Red Rock will be responsible for the bake sale - Nipigon for the tea. A table of baby articles will also be displayed. Those who do not wish to contribute to the tea or bake tables may make their contributions to this table. Proceeds will go toward new drapes for the wards. *** May we draw your attention to the Baby Bar on display in Nipigon Memorial Hospital. This is also a joint effort of the three auxiliaries and all monies made are being kept, in a separate account for the children’s ward a most worthy effort. All articles are hand knit or made and astonishingly reasonable. Included are baby sets, bonnets and booties, jackets and other things. All items are in a display case in the entrance hall of the hospital and anyone interested is welcome to come in and see them. *** The Auxiliary will meet the last Monday of every month beginning Tan. 23. Since the school room in the hall is now permanently occupied, it was decided to hold all future meetings m the homes. In January June Bishop will be hostess. A vote of thanks was given to our departing president, Eppi Hodges who well deserves it. *** Remember the Xmas concert on Dec. 21.
