Thursday, December 15, I960 NORSHORE SENTINEL 3 Bingo Winner Plaza Theatre Manager Nick Vickruck plays Santa here for Mrs. Peltier of Nipigon. Mrs. S. Peltier was the winner of $250 last week in the theatre Bingo night. RED ROCK RAMBLINGS By MRS. F. McAULEY On Nov. 30 the Red Rock Badminton Club held their elections of officers for the coming year. They are as follows: President, T. Tabe: sec.-treas., M. Crump: social convenor, A. Former: tournament chairman, R. Ray Games will be played on Wednesday and Sunday evenings at 8:30. Fees for the coming year will be as follows: $7.50 per couple, $5.00 single member, $3.00 for students. The above prices are for R.R.A.R.C. members. Non members will have to pay $8.00 this year instead of the $5.9C they paid last year. Jr. club will play their games on Monday and Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Jr. club members range in age from 8 to 16 years. It is expected there will be an enrollment of about 75 members in the Jr club this year. Mrs. Wm. Kuruliak of Mikado, Sask. who has been visiting her two sons Mike and Nick has left Red Rock to return to her home. *** The Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club held their monthly Executive meeting on Dec. 5 followed by their regular weekly dance. The couple who acted as masters of ceremony was Eileen and Cleve MacDonald who produced a very enjoyable program. Square dancers from district clubs are welcome to drop in any Monday night with the Belles and Beaus. We are looking forwards to dancing in Dorion on Dec. 16th. *** Although it is winter, the Golf Club is hard at work preparing for next season. A general meeting was held on Sunday Dec. 4th, when two committee’s were formed. Committee no. 1 is to bring in recommendations for incorporation. Committee no. 2 is to bring in a draft of proposed by-laws. After much deliberation it was decided to have a new name for the Golf Club in future it will be known , as the North Shore Golf Another general meeting will be called at which time the committee’s will I give their recommendations. NIPIGON NOTES Nipigon gained four new businesses.. .all in one person...last week when tall Don Cochrane and family arrived in town. Don announced the establishment of an ambulance service for the North Shore in this week’s paper while last week it was announced that a florist shop has also opened. Don is the person who will be owner and director of the new Funeral Home opening in the new year. And, if he hasn’t got enough to do, Don also sells insurance on the side for Monarch Life. A. busy man and a welcome addition. *** The Hospital Auxiliary has made several large contributions to the X-ray machine fund this past year. The membership drive in the early part of 1960 netted $22.o, the Bridge tournament $233, the Hospital tag day $91.36 and the tea and bake sale $170. The combined auxiliaries of Cameron Falls and Nipigon held a bazaar in June which netted $190 and a rug raffle in November which realized$160.25. Mrs. Mary Stewart of Nipigon was the winner of the rug. The women are to be commended for their efforts and it is to be hoped that more ladies will join their cause in the new year. Keep in mind the tea and bake sale to be held in January. *** The big jackpot is gone. Mrs. S. Peltier picked up a nice Xmas present to the tune of $250 at the Plaza Theatre amid much weeping and wailing of the Bingo addicts. *** The arena is now open. Pleasure skating was enjoyed by a good crowd last Sunday and barring warm weather the Flyers should be ready to open against Red Rock on Thursday, Dec. 22. Mgr. Ray Maki is the only one in town who is hoping for colder weather. *** A stag was held last Friday at the Legion Hall for Dr. Somerleigh and over $200 was realized. *** Dr. and Mrs. C. Wells and sons are leaving Dec. 17 to spend the Christmas season with Dr. Wells’ parents, Bishop and Mrs. Wells of Toronto. While down east they will visit Dr. Somerleigh. *** Mr. and Mrs. L. Underwood were hosts to the staff of the Hudson Bay store at their annual Christmas party Monday night. Gary and Marina Chaloner will leave shortly to take up residence in Winnipeg.
