Thursday, February 2, 1961 NORSHORE SENTINEL 9 ROYALS SLUMP CONTINUES, MERCS LUMP TO SECOND Red Rock Royals ran smack into the revived Marathon Mercuries over the weekend and promptly dropped to third place in the North Shore Hockey league standings while losing their sixth and seventh games in their last eight outings. The speedy, slick passing Merks scored three late goals for a drab 5-1 victory Saturday night and then held off the Royals for a 5-3 win Sunday afternoon. Al Lanteigne figured in all five goals Saturday, with a hat trick and two assists on goals by rookie Ken Nutbrown and veteran Pete Amadeo. Whitey Smith scored a disputed goal for the Royals who trailed 1-0 in the first and 2-0 after the second. Lanteigne was at it again Sunday scoring two more goals and an assist. Ferguson, Bunny LeBlanc and Nutbrown again were the other scorers while Harv Tretiak, Whitey Smith and Gord Dunville countered for the fast-fading Royals. Once again Nipigon was also defeated by Red Rock in the Bantam division 16-0. This result, however, does not reflect upon the Nipigon goalkeeper who saved many shots. Vic Dahl drew the penalty for holding when in control of the puck, a fact that drew the ire of Flyer coach Jack Staples. "That (Tony) Delaronde is strictly a homer referee,’’ blasted Jack.
