Oakville U-13 team makes it to bronze medal match at tourney The Field Hockey Ontario Junior Maple Leaf Tournament was held at Appleby College on the weekend with the host Oakville Field Hockey Club U13 mixed team making it to the bronze medal match where they lost 4-0 to Sarnia. Club president John Picone said injuries to Oakville captain Andrew Geach and Tyler Branco hurt the team. Oakville got into the final with a 3-1 win over Toronto GSC. Oakville goals were scored by Taylor DiMarco. Lauren Stanley and Tyler Branco. It was a satisfying result for Oakville, which, with a short bench, had dropped a pair of games on Saturday. 4-0 to Kitchener-Waterloo and 6-0 to Sarnia. Barrie Erskine ·Oakville Beaver Novice Hawks win tournament The Oakville Hawks novice rep lacrosse club came away with gold from the Fifth Annual Bulldogs Classic tournament in Halton Hills this past weekend. The team worked w ell together as they marched through five straight games without a loss to claim the championship trophy. The Hawks held their composure and fought with a determined effort that led to a solid 7-5 victory over Burlington to claim the championship trophy. Game M V P Ryan Adams was excellent as he threw in two goals while both Dillon Welfle and Braden Wallace capped off spirited and gutsy play throughout the weekend with a goal each. Once again. Bryan Cole threw in a pair and Tyler Albrecht a single to cement the victory. Goaltender Brennan Donville was excellent in the important semifinal game and was selected as the game M VP. Ben Paterson was on fire with three goals and the combination was too much for Mim ico, resulting in a 10-2 victory for the Hawks. Tyler Albrecht threw in his own hat trick and scoring leaders Bryan Cole and Ryan Adams produced a pair each. The Hawks won all three prelimi nary round games. Tykes stretch win streak to six The Oakville Hawks tyke rep team stretched their winning streak to six games, after three opening losses, with a couple of recent road wins, 5-3 in Clarkson on Ju ly 16 and 5-3 in Newmarket on July 9. In Clarkson. Oakville fought off a 2-1 deficit after the first period to take a 4-2 lead into the third period. Jake Smyth netted the hat-trick with single markers to Lucas Zitmanis and Nolan Apers.
